I see that this thread was about 1year ago- 2016 but I just recently have the same issue with my 2014 Trailhawk.

It started sometime in Dec 2016- I went to fill up and to kept clicking off every few seconds. I tried changing the angle and holding it in different positions with no luck.
I thought at first it was the gas station. I tried filling up at another station and it continued to do the something so I made an appt to the dealer to see what was going on.

I took it in to the dealer and they diagnosed that the filter (in the gas tank line) and gas cap needed replaced. The parts needed to be ordered and it was not covered under warranty.

I happened to purchase the extended warranty when I bought the car because of it being a 1st year model- 2014.

Paraphrasing this visit today...

I went on for what was to be an hour appt and the I went to check out I told them that I read that it may be covered under the emissions warranty - Service person said ok and said maybe we can honor that ( to my surprise- no push back.) As we were checking out I asked if it was fixed, technician said yes, I asked did you try and put gas in it? He said no. Well I said that might be a good idea. He called someone up and they went to put gas in. 30 minutes later I go find the service person and he said it didn't work. They were going to have to take the gas tank off. I asked if this was under warranty, he said no but it would be no charge. ?? Didn't question this.
With no timeline now after being there for 2 1/2 hours I was sent home in a rental.
It is now 4 hours later and I have not heard back from them....

Fingers crossed it gets fixed - I am not sure what I will do if not.

I love the car but with so many recalls and a failed navigation system that had to be replaced twice, along with a transmission that hesitates at times- ( I've complained every time I have taken it in and they say its normal,) I am sorely disappointed in this vehicle.

Anyway - Just wondering if the outcome of above thread. thanks

how did your navigation system fail? lol if they sent you home in a rental and you werent in a rush, im pretty sure its safe to say you got a new vehicle for at least 12-24 hours.

* Depending on the extended warranty you purchased there should be no issues if the vehicle warranty itself is past. I do not think the emissions/fueling system is a wear item under a Max Care plan.
* Actually I had a hesitation issue with mine early on and took several thousand miles to completely go away. That was between gear 1 and two from a start up. Also that was part of the AL learning process for the TCM. I would work with the dealer to resolve that issue as it should not be one. Also it is not normal, contrary to what the dealer says. Mine is smooth to the point of not even feeling the shift.
They do need to fix it. I may suggest that you PM Jeep Cares on this forum and I think they will assist you with the dealer in the transmission concern.
* Sounds like back pressure in the fueling line. Sometimes actual liquid gas can get into the evap system and will cause back pressure I believe. Its usually a mess to clean up for the repair.
Most of the time it comes from continuing to fill after the initial click off at the pump. The next time you fill up the problem will surface. Not saying that was your issue. But that can be a cause.
One of the reasons I now never go past the first click off.
* I have had all those recalls also on my 2014 Limited. It goes with the times now as auto makers have to react fast to safety concerns.

Actually I use those recall visits to make sure all the required updates are also done if needed. Saves me a trip just for checking updates.
Warranty repairs like the Nav system do happen, though are rare. Electronics in general I have found will fail in the first year or two if they are going to fail. An extended service plan on this electronic vehicle was a good move on your part.

PM JeepCares to help resolve your issue(s) with the dealer.

I have had the same problem since December 2016 in my Jeep Cherokee. So far all of the hoses and the neck of the fuel tank have been replaced. My car has been at the dealer since January 11th and they are still waiting for a new fuel tank to be delivered. My Chrysler doesn't care a bit rep had left a message on my voicemail on 12/27 reporting that the part would be in January 10th. She hasn't returned my last 3 phone calls and I've been given no update on the part arrival. Like the consumer who started this thread, I don't expect the replacement of the entire fuel tank to fix the problem and I wonder if he ever got a resolution to the problem or if he ended up trading his car in? Has your issue been resolved?

F/U from original post.
The new gas tank finally came in after 2 weeks. I scheduled the install. I left the car overnight to do first thing. They called be about 12 noon to say it was indeed fixed. I asked if they tried putting gas in the new tank and they said they put 7 gallons in with no problem. The problem seemed to have been a valve in the tank itself.

I've put gas in the car 3 times since. The first time the gas tank overflowed without any warning. I thought "oh no." I have put gas in 2 more without any issues. Hope that this is the last of that.

There was no charge for the work and parts. The invoice says it would have been $900+ for this repair.

** my navigation went loco. Not recognizing any streets and would have you on roads that were parallel to the road I was actually on. For example If I was driving on a major interstate it would not know I was in the road - it had me driving in a body of water or a corn field next to it. It also did not know what direction I was going. It gave small signs of not working properly from the get go but i did't notice. Like having to reset settings for guidance preferences...They tried to fix with updates but had to be replace.

I have had the same issue with my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I purchased it in December 2017 and it started about a week later. I was able to fill the tank one time with no problem, but the second time after purchasing the vehicle I tried to fill the tank it would click off every $0.25. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the entire fuel assembky, tank included; no charge thank goodness. Problem is it reared its ugly head again multiple times. A second tank was replaced a few months later. And then the third time it occurred they found that there's some kind of a charcoal filter above the tank that they said because of all the rain we've had this year became saturated with water. The way they diagnosis if they weigh it and compare the actual weight with what it should way. They replace that, again no charge thank goodness. And the issue has not returned at this point. But it took six months for it to show up again last time, so I'm not confident that it's been repaired.

I've also had a problem with the transmission suddenly having trouble getting the car into gear. The minute you put it into gear the vehicle would lurch and if you tried to drive it would grind. Apparently that was another recall where they had to reprogram the computer. That's happened again a second time, on my way to work one day when I suddenly lost acceleration and had to pull off the side of the road and turn the car off. I was able to turn it back on and get it into drive and I have to turn around and go home to the dealer which was only three miles away luckily. They again fixed at no charge.

Next was the button that turns the headlights on. I took it in for an oil change, and went back to pick it up and I couldn't turn the headlights on because the headlight knob was pushed all the way into the dash. They said it's a common problem that because the button sticks out people with longer legs catch their knees on it and it breaks the plastic housing that holds the button in place. Cheap! Again a no charge repair.

Now the most recent issue is after turning the car off, three times now, I've gone out in the morning and the battery was dead. Tested the battery at Battery Mart and it was fine. Put the battery back in after charging it, and the dash is flashing non-stop while the car is turned off. They replaced the part that makes the dash go to sleep and thought it was fixed. Then I came out one morning and the battery was dead again. After it spent a week at the dealer with them turning on and turning it off to figure out what the problem is, and no error codes, they've told me the problem is the radio stays on somehow even though there's no music playing and the car is turned off. I think it's just the button sticks because you never actually turn the radio off when you push the button it just mutes it. A new radio is $900. That's not happening! And now I'm afraid I'm going to get stuck somewhere with a dead battery again.

I am sorely disappointed in the poor quality of my now 5th Jeep.

Loyal Jeep Gal

wow, sorry to hear all your jeep problems Cynthia!
My 14 TH is waiting for a gas tank now for no fuel fill issues, hope they figure the charcole canister out to, we have had unprecedented rain on the gulf coast over the last few months.......

Fuel Vapor Lock Issues

So I've been researching on how to fix my "gas tank won't fill up issue" and appreciate everyone's input in this thread. I've methodically blew out purge lines and the charcoal canister lines, but my gas tank still kicks off the pump after 0.5 gallons of fuel...and then every 0.2 gallons after that. I even blew out the metal fuel tank filler air line as well...no joy.

As far as warranty is concerned, I bought my '14 TH back in 9/15 and have 89K miles on her. I'm going to take off my tank skid plate and locate the vapor line....and disconnect it from the charcoal canister and blow out that line as well. If that doesn't fix the issue I'll probably have to start replacing the purge valve, charcoal canister vent valve, charcoal canister, and lastly the metal fuel filler assembly.

I'm hoping by blowing compressed air from the gas tank to the charcoal canister that action will fix my issue, fingers crossed!

The one rule that needs to be followed is never fill past the first click off, not one drop more of gas. Liquid in the evap system is never good.

Not saying that is always the problem but all it takes is once. Its like rolling the dice.

Accidentally fixed gas tank vapor lock issue

I had the same problem, in which I was unable to put gas in the tank of my 2014 Jeep Cherokee without the gas nozzle shutting off frequently. I experienced this for several weeks. I fixed the problem by accidentally running out of gas. I had to call AAA to come and give me a few gallons of gas so I could make it to a gas station. When I did I was surprised to find I was able to fill my tank without any trouble. It's been six months since this happened and I still have no problem filling my tank. I don't know why this fixed it, and I can't say if it will work for others, but I wanted to relate my experience in hopes it can help someone.

Help

I am having this same problem with my gas tank now allowing me to add fuel to it - I would like to know what ever happened? Trying to get this done under warranty but the dealership can't figure out what the actual problem is. Maybe your experience can help me! I just bought this dang car so very frustrated.

What year is your KL? How many miles? Did you read posts 26 and 30?

A common cause is overfilling the tank - never fill past the first pump shut off, this can cause the vent to become blocked. This link may help you to diagnose your issue:

.
It's a 2014 TH (I checked via profile). And yes that diagnosis list posted by @Desoto is definitely what the dealership needs to look at (and perform).

I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee and just had this issue with mine $1,111 later they had to replace the entire fuel tank & valves
Because one small valve down under the car which is not sold separately was stuck closed so the pressure was building up inside. I can now put gas inside the tank. I’ve contacted Jeep because by the sounds of this this should be a recall with all those that I see now are having the same problem. I had to extra warranty and bought it used so I fee like I had no leg to stand on except for arguing it should be a recall.

I can't even get it to a 1/2 of a tank. Thanks for the link - I'm checking it out now. The car only has 60,000 miles and it is only a couple of months old for me.
