Vapor Lock - Can't Fill Tank

Your description is how I have understood the term vapor lock, but Chrysler and other non Chrysler mechanics are using 'vapor lock' also to describe this problem.

Nope - not covered under warranty.

Fill tube assembly & installation: $682.59
New gas tank (prepaid to order it) $697.89
Installation of gas tank "cut me a deal" $360.00

Total $1,740.48

I think I am missing a bill in there...
Over 36,000 miles for no warranty coverage?
Have they looked at the recovery system or simply the EVAC.
Overfilling at the pump can actually replace the gas vapors in the system with liquid Gas. That will cause a mirad of problems including not allowing the tank during the filling to vent. Back pressure is what causes the pump to shut off.
California emissions are even more complicated.

I see that this thread was about 1year ago- 2016 but I just recently have the same issue with my 2014 Trailhawk.

It started sometime in Dec 2016- I went to fill up and to kept clicking off every few seconds. I tried changing the angle and holding it in different positions with no luck.
I thought at first it was the gas station. I tried filling up at another station and it continued to do the something so I made an appt to the dealer to see what was going on.

I took it in to the dealer and they diagnosed that the filter (in the gas tank line) and gas cap needed replaced. The parts needed to be ordered and it was not covered under warranty.

I happened to purchase the extended warranty when I bought the car because of it being a 1st year model- 2014.

Paraphrasing this visit today...

I went on for what was to be an hour appt and the I went to check out I told them that I read that it may be covered under the emissions warranty - Service person said ok and said maybe we can honor that ( to my surprise- no push back.) As we were checking out I asked if it was fixed, technician said yes, I asked did you try and put gas in it? He said no. Well I said that might be a good idea. He called someone up and they went to put gas in. 30 minutes later I go find the service person and he said it didn't work. They were going to have to take the gas tank off. I asked if this was under warranty, he said no but it would be no charge. ?? Didn't question this.
With no timeline now after being there for 2 1/2 hours I was sent home in a rental.
It is now 4 hours later and I have not heard back from them....

Fingers crossed it gets fixed - I am not sure what I will do if not.

I love the car but with so many recalls and a failed navigation system that had to be replaced twice, along with a transmission that hesitates at times- ( I've complained every time I have taken it in and they say its normal,) I am sorely disappointed in this vehicle.

Anyway - Just wondering if the outcome of above thread. thanks
* Depending on the extended warranty you purchased there should be no issues if the vehicle warranty itself is past. I do not think the emissions/fueling system is a wear item under a Max Care plan.
* Actually I had a hesitation issue with mine early on and took several thousand miles to completely go away. That was between gear 1 and two from a start up. Also that was part of the AL learning process for the TCM. I would work with the dealer to resolve that issue as it should not be one. Also it is not normal, contrary to what the dealer says. Mine is smooth to the point of not even feeling the shift.
They do need to fix it. I may suggest that you PM Jeep Cares on this forum and I think they will assist you with the dealer in the transmission concern.
* Sounds like back pressure in the fueling line. Sometimes actual liquid gas can get into the evap system and will cause back pressure I believe. Its usually a mess to clean up for the repair.
Most of the time it comes from continuing to fill after the initial click off at the pump. The next time you fill up the problem will surface. Not saying that was your issue. But that can be a cause.
One of the reasons I now never go past the first click off.
* I have had all those recalls also on my 2014 Limited. It goes with the times now as auto makers have to react fast to safety concerns.

Actually I use those recall visits to make sure all the required updates are also done if needed. Saves me a trip just for checking updates.
Warranty repairs like the Nav system do happen, though are rare. Electronics in general I have found will fail in the first year or two if they are going to fail. An extended service plan on this electronic vehicle was a good move on your part.

PM JeepCares to help resolve your issue(s) with the dealer.

The one rule that needs to be followed is never fill past the first click off, not one drop more of gas. Liquid in the evap system is never good.

Not saying that is always the problem but all it takes is once. Its like rolling the dice.
