Looks like I popped the champagne too soon. Clunking noise returned today :(. This time it seems like the noise has moved to a higher speed band: 55+. It seems to happen less often at the lower speeds where it was found before, but still makes an occasional appearance there.

Looking over the other Cherokee forums, it looks like this issue rarely gets fixed, and I can't find any concrete diagnosis of what it actually is other than the TSB that LKJeep20 posted. Hate to just keep running back and forth to the dealer with a new car. Maybe I'll try them again and then contact Jeep.
Sorry it didn’t work for you. I have logged over 6000 miles since having my dealer perform the stated TSB and the clunk has not returned on mine. Did they update both the TCM and PCM? My paperwork shows the updates performed under TSB 21-020-20 REV A as: TCM 68446022AE-AG and PCM 68433373AC-AE.

Hi @LKJeep20
Just wondering if the clunk is still gone after that TSB you mentioned. Recently purchased a 2019 limited with the same 35 mph clunk. Four days and I’m tired of it already. I printed TSB out and plan to go to the dealer with it. But I’m concerned they won’t do it because it’s a 2019 not a 2020. Is there any difference in the transmission between the 2019 Limited and the 2020 Limited 3.2?

Hi,

Saw your post, and I wanted to update the forum regarding my experience with this issue.

After have a terrible experience with my selling dealer (stopped returning calls and emails - and I was not raving or anything), Jeep Cares made an appointment for me with another area dealer. Even though they said they could not hear the clunk, they checked that the latest software was present, and - more tellingly perhaps, checked and retorqued all bolts that connect the engine and transmission to the rest of the vehicle and drivetrain. This was probably the most effective thing done to make the clunk go away. It is gone about 95% of the time now, but every once in a while, it will resurface for a bit. No one was ever able to definitively say exactly what it was/is.

Good Luck!

I have been noticing a noise on my 2019 Cherokee when vehicle is moving at higher speed (30+) and I let off the gas pedal and then press it again. It is difficult to describe, but probably best described as a click. There are not any performance issues, it only occurs at higher speeds, and cannot be replicated while stopped. Anyone know what I am referring to? I do not recall hearing it on test drives or when we first bought the Cherokee, but perhaps I was not paying attention. Sounds like it is coming from driver's side, but cannot tell if inside or outside. I came across Wrangler owners discussing same thing, but did not read enough to see if there was a conclusion as to cause. The slightest noise bugs me--I did not buy an Infiniti one time because it had a barely audible but high pitched sound whenever the gas pedal was in a depressed position.
What was the issue ?
