2019 Trailhawk, I had the local Jeep dealer install the tow package (hitch and harness, plus flash controller). Plugged in a new P3 controller into the connector under the lower left kick panel, it has power and activates the brake lights. But no power to the brake line on the 7 way connector. Jeep dealer says it works, but after dismantling the vehicle this evening it appears that I found problem.

The jacka$$ dealer didn't connect the blue wire from the 7-way connector to anything!?!?!? Does anyone know where I can find the other end of the wire that runs from the 4 pin connector upfront? I'd really like to avoid having to run a new wire if there's already one tucked away somewhere.

Has anyone here installed one of those Redarc Tow-Pro dial brake controllers? I'm liking that design, and an trying to figure out a good location to install the dial. My favorite ideas are:
1) in the blank switch location below the infotainment screen. But is there empty space behind that area?
2) just to the right of the engine start button. What's the clearance like behind that panel?

I have the Tow-Pro Elite in my 21 Ranger pickup. The dial is lighted and provides information regarding what is happening with the controller so you need to have it mounted where you can easily see it.

Thanks for the tip dgc, actually the spot to the right of the start button is fairly well visible. And also easily reachable by the passenger if they need to jump in & help control the trailer.

Is there room behind the plastic in that area for the switch?

Hey dgc how well do you like that controller?

My camper is the first trailer I have had that was heavy enough to require trailer brakes making the Redarc the first brake controller I have had so I have no frame of reference. In automatic mode you just rotate the knob to obtain the necessary gain to apply the trailer brakes without them skidding or under applying them. Once it is set for a particular trailer you don't have to mess with it. I would assume other controllers work the same. I have had no reason to even try manual mode.

The only reason I got the Redarc was it was sold by Ford and was packaged with another module so it would integrate with the Ranger automatic emergency braking. No other controllers would work with AEB, so if the AEB applied the brakes the trailer brakes would not be applied. With the system sold by Ford it does.

did you ever figure out what to connect it to? I think I might have the same problem.

I decide to go with a Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty brake controller on my '22 TH, as I really didn't want to hang a controller visible under the dash. This solution did require me to drill into my practically new Cherokee dashboard though, which I wasn't completely excited about either (lol) but it was the lesser evil. So, here's how it looks:

I had to find a good spot for the controller dial, somewhere easy reach as well as room behind the panel for the unit as well as looking not too dorky. I wanted to put it just to the right of the start button, but I found out there were obstructions behind that panel & it would have been really hard to clear that out of the way. So I mounted it a few inches below & to the left of the hvac panel.

First to drill the holes. 2 holes 7.5mm apart. Best way is to draw 2 dots onto paper tape the proper distance apart & use that as a template.

Next, drill away! First drill both holes with a smaller 1/8" bit, then enlarge the lower hole with a bigger 3/8" bit. Scary drilling into a visible part of my car! But, so far so good

Now to install the control button. The Redarc system button is nice & small, I hope I get used to seeing it there.

According to the instructions, the main controller box has to be FIRMLY mounted so it can't move around. You can't just stuff it loosely behind the dash. It can be mounted in any position though, and I found a great spot for it right behind the radio unit. I used heavy double sided tape as well as a tie wrap to make sure it doesn't move. Fortunately the controller cable (TPH-001) is just long enough to reach that spot.

Things are working out! All that's left to do is button the dash back up & test the unit out

I haven't tried pulling my camper with it yet but I did connect the trailer harness & the brakes did activate. The controller button has a multi-color light that indicates what it is doing. Our current camper is only around 2000 lbs, so not much of a challenge for this brake controller, but we are contemplating upgrading to a bigger/heavier camper soon. Good to know my Cherokee is ready for the task! If anyone has questions ask away

That was helpful. I am looking at the exact same controller.

Great thread, very informative.

This thread may be old, but since it's Pinned, I'll post here.

I finally had a reason to install a brake controller in my 2015 Trailhawk with factory tow package. Bought the 3014-P wiring harness off Amazon and a Prodigy P2 off FB marketplace. I pulled out that useless little cubby door and fabricated an aluminum bracket to hold the controller (level). The two top screws thread into the holes for the rubber bumpers, and the bottom screws just thread into the plastic. Feels nice and solid!

I also bought the Prodigy adapter from eTrailer, but I cut the black Tekonsha plug off of it and spliced on the plug from my Hopkins Insight brake controller, in anticipation of installing it in the TrailChicken. The Insight worked quite well in my previous vehicle, and it's very unobtrusive.
