I have a 2016 and just replaced the 9005 bulbs with Phillips 9011 with a little tab trimming. Seems to have better light out put, as I do not want to do a hid kit. I would hate to mess with my warranty.

Interesting. I just learned of the existance of 9011s a couple days ago while reading up on 9012 HIR2s. Here's the deal, or at least what I can make of it : 9011-9012 is similar to the 9005-9006 combo. 9012 and 9006 are lower wattage (55W), while 9005 and 9011 are higher wattage at 65W. Originally, 9005s were sold for double-bulb systems as the high beam bulb and the 9006 was the low beam bulb. It's not that clear for the 9011 and 9012, in fact I don't really get how they came to life. I do know the 9012 has had an evolution from HIR to HIR2 adn that it is considered to be a high tech high output bulb, and we know it used in halogen projectors like we have on the KLs.

Looking at the link for the 9011, I see only HIR, not HIR2. It is a 65W bulb compared to the 9012 which is 55W. But the 9012, even at 55W, has much more output than a 55W 9006.

And now we have 65W 9005s in 2016 Cherokees instead of 55W 9012s in teh 2014-15s and early 16s.

So... how good would a 65W HIR 9011 be compared to a 55W high performance HIR2 9012 or a 65W 9005 ? We need to find official data on this... yikes...

Thanks. Those are street legal 55W HIR2s with a blue coating. I can only guess here, but they may have less total output than the regular 3000K HIR2s, but... the cooler white may offer better lighting in some conditions, like on wet pavement. Cooler also means more glare for you in the rain or when it snows as the light hits the water droplets or snow flakes.

9006 is not same 9012 HIR

Many Users like GP Thunder bulbs. They have good quality and reasonable price.

Do you work for them ? The bulbs you link to are 55W 9012s @7500K. Now that is blue and output is not good with that color. Way too blue for comfort. And they are also very offending to oncoming drivers. It doesn't say if they are HIR2 or not. If not, then they are even less efficient than the OEM bulbs...

Yep I got that. My rather looong post (sorry) kinda went in a few different directions, but what I said about the 9011s was that it is unclear what type of output they really have compared to 9012 HIR2s, or 65W 9005s for that matter. Having output numbers would go a long way in helping us understand the tech and the possibilities.

From reading I also got that we could fit 9006s in a 9012 socket no trimming, but that would be counter productive because the 9006s are definitely not as powerful as the 9012s.

In your case, you could probably fit 9012s in there with a little tab trimming as well. But... I don't know which ultimately has more output between the two, and also how the computer would react if you went with a lower wattage bulb (you stayed with 65W with the 9011s). So tab trimming is one thing and bulb out errors could come into play if you cheat on bulb wattage.

But anyway, glad you like the 9011s. And I'm so confused with all these bulbs now

I want to auto zone and got new bulbs and not knowing witch one I needed I told them I needed bulbs for a 2016 Jeep Cherokee and I got home my brother notice the connections were different and after we spent time trying to figuring out why I remember that the change the lights in the 2016s in the middle of the year and went off what was on my headlight lens witch was H1R2 so I had to go get 9012 and not 9005 what a pain messing with this

As of this date, the best, legal upgrade for 9006 Halogen standard headlight bulbs are the Phillips 2012 HIR bulbs which have a lifetime, as written on the package, of 1500 hours and lumens of 1875, compared to the standard Sylvania 9006 of 1000 lumens and 1000 hours. It can be found here on Amazon:

You'll note no blue filter which tends to reduce the potential total brightness of the bulb.

fwiw - I like these 9012s in my 2014 Limited. do yourself a favor, buy a 2-pack not 2 singles, & change them both. they will be more likely to look the same
