Hi Guys: I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude that is having this indicator lights problem more and more frequently. My Jeep is not under warranty. Have any of you gotten this fixed as a recall-type problem outside of warranty? Alternatively, if you've had to pay the dealer, what was the cost?
Not under warranty? I dont think anyone on here has had to have repairs outside of warranty yet.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you have this problem outside of warranty. While the problem has been reported here a number of times, I also do not recall anyone having to do it without warranty coverage. How far outside of warranty is your Cherokee? Maybe they will take care of you if it's not too far.

The Powertrain warranty is for 5 years 100,000 miles on your 2014. Wonder if this problem is covered under powertrain. Can't get much power to the wheels if the shifter goes out. Have you had it to the dealer yet?

Please keep us posted on what happens and how much it costs you. This could segue into a discussion about the value of an extended warranty.

I just want to jump in and say I'm having the same problem. It started sometime this year and I haven't been able to tie it to a specific cause. I do use the parking break most of the time, but I've used it for the entire time I've owned it. I'm also out of general warranty too.

I've noticed no ill effects while driving because of the lights.

2014 Jeep Cherokee TrailHawk, 33,000 miles or so.

After a 3,200 mile trip the problem with my lights seems to have been corrected with the replacement of the shifter as others have had done. Hope I don't see them again. Now waiting for the parts to take care of the harness crimp recall. I received the notice yesterday in my mail box.

... and my 2014 just started doing this as well. Lovely. I am also now out of warranty (but have the extended warranty so not a big deal). Sounds like this is going to be a pretty common problem affecting 2014 models.

2014 Cherokee Trailhawk. This happened to me for the first (and only, so far) time last week. 27,000 miles. I pulled into work, turned off my headlights, put it in reverse to back into my spot, and when I went to put it back into drive all the lights were on. I pulled forward a tad, put it in park, applied the parking brake, and turned it off. After work when I started it all was normal again. Tried to duplicate the morning procedures when I got home, but the lights behaved themselves.

The engine light came on Saturday. I had an appointment for the harness recall fix for today (Wed), so I just ignored it. Monday the voice command button did not activate, and kept telling me that there was no phone connected... I wasn't using the call button, but okay. My phone said it was paired with UConnect, but the Jeep system didn't find my phone. I deleted my phone and tried to repair, but UConnect was never discoverable. Tuesday morning I repaired with no problems. :O Also, the engine light was no longer lit...

Tuesday night I dropped off for the recall repair, and listed all the above things to look at as well. Last recall repair I reported to them that the panic alarm had gone off several times on my partner when he was parking and getting out of the car (we do not have the factory alarm installed), but Jeep service was unable to find anything wrong. That hasn't happened to me yet, so I couldn't give them many details.

In addition to the above, I have also had my navigation screen freeze and stop operating... I think that's everything. The shifting is occassionally rough - usually seems to happen when accelerating from a quick slow down, but sometimes it's rough downshifting as well. I'm hoping that at 27,000 miles I'm out of the woods for needing a replacement transmission....

Just joined the club yesterday with mine. Noticed my reverse cam was not appearing on screen as I was backing out of a parking place...backed out, shifted into drive and looked down to see all lights lit. Pulled back into parking place and shifted back and forth through gears, no change. All gears seemed to work fine, put in park and shut down. Restarted and all was fine, even back up cam....33,000 miles. If it is going to **** the bed, hope it happens within 3,000 miles.

Shifter replaced by PN 1UT662X90AG. Later shifter lights all came ON 3 times.
Got fault code P1C86-1D.
Dealer replaced shifter with PN 6MD102X9-AA under parts warranty.
PN 1UT662X90AG is superseded by PN 1UT662X90AH.
This is for a Trailhawk which has a different PN because of the red stitching on the leather boot.
Has FCA finally resolved this problem?
My dealer does not have a clue!

Good question about the powertrain coverage, since it does relate to the transmission. But I'm naturally skeptical. The key of course would have been to attend to it while still under the 3/36,000 warranty.

I had the shifter replaced awhile back under warranty even though I was a bit over 36k. All the lights come on just about every day now...I just figure it's a 'feature' of my KL.....

So far shifter with PN 6MD102X9-AA has been working just fine.
Hopefully this is the one that will solve the 'all lights ON' problem.

It's happened two or three times before but doesn't seem to have any effect on gear selection or shifting and probably not related to the TCM flash that was done yesterday. Ready to back out of the garage this morning, selected reverse and all of the gear indicator lights lit up. Backed out to the street, selected drive and all of the lights except park stayed on. Decided to go by the dealer and let them take a look and on the way the park indicator light also came on. Tech had me pull into a service bay. Put selector in park and the lights stayed on. Tech plugged her magic box into the Jeep's computer plug in and checked her laptop. Code came up indicating something like "shift circuit voltage out of range" (I don't remember the exact wording). Consensus was that a wire might be getting pinched or moved causing a short. Taking car in to service this afternoon and they will probably keep it overnight. When I left the lights went out except for the gear I had selected.

Anyone else have an attractive young lady for a tech? She knows her stuff too.
At first when I saw the thread quote (Gear Indicator LIghts All Lit) all I could think of is this

2016 Jeep Cherokee

Hello all,

I've just recently had to have the transmission shifter assembly replaced because of this issue, and my dealer refused to cover it under Powertrain warranty. I have opened a complaint with Jeep Cares, and continue to reach out across multiple platforms to get it resolved, but so far no luck. Cost me almost $900.

Update: Here's the reply from Jeep Cares. Good luck everyone. Next time buy from someone else.

Hi darkhawke151,

Thank you for providing this information. I have looked further into your case and warranty coverage. Unfortunately, the transmission shifter assembly is not covered under Powertrain Warranty. You can access your full warranty coverage here: https://www.mopar.com/jeep/en-us/car...penGarage=true

I apologize for any inconvenience.

shifter works

So far shifter with PN 6MD102X9-AA has been working just fine.
Hopefully this is the one that will solve the 'all lights ON' problem.
My shifter still works and have not had a "service shifter" error on EVIC.
So I think the new shifter PN 6MD102X9-AA has solved the problem.
Has anyone else had this shifter installed and has it worked successfully?

The Final Solution?

September 11, 2018 all of the shifter lights came on.

Dealer checked and traced the issue to PRNDL bezel kit shifter and wiring shifter harness, have fault code P1C86.

Ordered Bezel kit PN 5YD27XSA-AA which is on back order. Price $179.99.
Originally the PN was 5YD311UC-AA and several others.
Seem to be having a hard time getting one to work correctly.

Ordered wiring harness PN 68413957-AA. Price $32.99.

When the dealer gets the parts I will get it fixed, hopefully under Warranty since I have had this problem for several years.
Apparently this is a known issue. There is no TSB or STAR Case, unless someone knows otherwise.

Has anyone had this repair done and does it work?
Does anyone have pictures of the parts?
