if you guys want to work on my car I'd gladly hire you. I'm at the mercy of retail mechanics who have offered these 3 options
  • buy part & put it in & pay the $2,500 (or whatever)
  • (not worth the expense so, get rid of the car (it has 200k miles)
  • just keeping replacing the tire that wears out

made some calls around on Friday looking for an auto suspension specialist. want to give this car any chance I can to keep it. meaning no self doubt upon deciding to sell/trade

got an appointment for another opinion tomorrow morning. no expectations, just gonna get another opinion w/ the car on the lift

Take the money your going to spend on fixing the old one, and put it towards the down payment on the new one!!! LOL...😉😎
yeah yeah I know I know & probably will ...

one of my prospects, already came down another $1k, just by me walking away ...

What are you guys doing to wear out rear knuckle bushings?
I have 122k miles on my 2014 TH and go off road on some really bumpy terrain. I go really slow, 1.8 MPH using SSC or slower for the really bad spots.
I think my bushings are ok, how would I know if they aren't? Should I do a 4 wheel alignment and check the suspension? It has been awhile.
beats me boss, I'm a highway warrior

my clue was this after not rotating 6months

Thanks for the update. My tires have never worn unevenly. My Jeep dealer makes sure my alignment is done correctly.
And, I am really surprised the front and rear tires almost wear the same.
My Firestone tire dealer will rotate my tires fairly inexpensively, possibly free.
I replace my tires when they get down to 1/2 tread depth, I need really good traction on rocks and mud on my trails.
The suspension is firm and tight and doesn't make any 'funny' noises even when driving over the rough stuff.
When I go down my steep hill using HDC the brakes do a lot of moaning and groaning, I can tell they are working really hard.
I think you are all set my friend. no need to worry about this then, eh?

from a suspension specialist: time to move on to another vehicle
  • the bushing is not a replacement part
  • $1,900 for 2 knuckles to do both sides + labor
  • "once we start working on it, there's no telling what else we may need to replace. plus after this job, there's no telling what else this car might need"
I guess I can't find a 1/2 decent mechanic near me ...

Well, we know it can be done, as people have done it, but I guess these "new age" mechanics and technicians just lack the proper skills and ability to fabricate, and or improvise, or they're just pure damn lazy "parts changers"...🤔😎
"the rule book says ..." I do miss some of the guys that worked on past trucks who would cut out bad fuel line or brake fluid? sections & splice in new tubes

Cause dealerships are a complete rip off, even when parts are listed at a 3rd of the cost online from developer they still need to make money. Therefore you're hit with mark up, my dealership is charging me $1200 EACH for them. I showed them this add and all they said was buy it from them as they will not price match nor will they discount the parts.
that stinks but at least you are getting them fixed. what year & what model KL?

RockAuto sells the left rear (with off-road suspension) for $527 (US), right rear (with off-road suspension) for $454.
Curiously, they sell the left rear for regular suspension for $598.
They don't show a right rear for regular suspensions right now...
And they are Mopar knuckles.
intriguing. but it's all academic, if I can not find anyone to do the work for mine

Lady's an Gentlemen it is time to rejoice!!!! 🎉🥳 A direct replacement is not on the market!!! Part number CP1879, my local Jeep mechanic completed a repair just last week and informed me they're exact fit!! WOOHOO!!!
I guess you meant to write the word "now"?
please tell us more
how many did they replace?
how much did it cost?
& just to clarify you're talking about the bearing / bushing, not the entire knuckle?

I am in New Brunswick, Canada and around 6 hour drive from Boston
just circling back ...
got my passport
Wifey thinks I'm nutz & she might be right
if you're interested in doing my 2 rear knuckle bushings:
  • please let me know (via PM) how much you'd like for the whole job, parts & labor, don't cheat yourself
  • please suggest a cheap motel nearby for a nite or two (I can find one on my own, just thinking out loud)
  • if you don't do wheel alignments, please suggest a nearby shop for an alignment, before I drive home

if you have second thoughts, no worries at all! Wifey will be grateful ;-) no PM necessary

I'd have to agree with her, I mean only a crazy person goes cycling 🚲 in the snow, in sub freezing weather...LOL!!!😉😎
well she hasn't divorced me yet! close maybe, but still in the same bed. if I do get the boot, there are other fish on the ice
