Down side is I broke the clip on the cabin air filter door that clips to the top, I glued it back together but I know it will fall apart when I remove the door so I'll need to try and find the part number to replace it.
Let us know if you find that part number. My Cherokee came with that tab busted and it's just held up with painter's tape, which works well enough. It looks like that part might be a pain to replace, though...

So stinky. Toxic mold style stinky. Dealership was no help.

This I don't understand---the part "Dealership was no help." Please explain that more fully so I can understand what the dealership told you and was no help. What the heck are they for if you come in with a problem (serious in my opinion) and they are no help.

8 can't speak for who you quoted, however @MarinR00 went to his dealer with the "smelly AC" issue, and they charged him $150 for two filters, and sent him in his way.

In my opinion, that was no help.

I completely agree! I told the front man at the service desk that my air-conditioning smelled sour, and that I'm concerned that there might be mold within the system. I asked if they could verify that there is no mold growth. He said that in order to check they would have to remove the entire dashboard, which would be a lot of work, and therefore they didn't want to do it. He recommended instead that I turn off the air conditioning a few minutes before I come to a stop so that the water can drain out of the system. The most they (reluctantly) agreed to do was spray some Frigi-Fresh into the air intake. I have all of this conversation documented in case I develop some type of respiratory disease.

I swear I can't stand going into my dealership for service. From the beginning it's been as if I have to pass some kind of gauntlet in order to have them do work on my vehicle, as if they're doing me a favor. I've purchased 3 vehicles from my local Audi/Porsche/BMW dealership and contrast in service is striking.

Pretty expensive for what it is.

There should be a group buy thread for these lol.

Thank you! Wow, thats a hefty price for a piece of plastic. Perhaps I'll look into designing the piece myself and printing it out on my 3d printer. Down side is I'll have to try and find the time, so it might just be with it to order and be done with it. Sigh

Thanks for the part number!

I am fortunate as I have a great service department to go to and I know other customers feel the same way. In the past I had one that wasn't too bad and is closer to me, but I would not even think of taking my vehicle to that previous dealer's service now as most of their good techs have moved to the dealer I am going to now. . My wife has had asthma for years and on several meds, so if we ever get that "smelly" thing in our KLs it will be repaired before I drive it anymore as I am very sensitive myself to "smells" too. I have been fortunate and can't remember ever having that occur even when I was driving older vehicles with a plus 100,000 miles on them. I did have one new Ram that had a problem with water running down inside the vehicle but I took it back twice and they got it corrected (this was a different dealer too than I have now). I don't remember any smell after they repaired it or even before they repaired it--but would have been shortly with the water on the carpet--think they took it out and cleaned the carpet. I guess you don't have any other dealers close to you that you could attempt to get better service on your KL. Have you talked to the GM or the owner if they are different people--I have had success a few times in the past when I did gt help by going up the "chain." I am sorry you have not received proper service on your KL. Oh, when it is 90 degrees F I am not going to turn my AC off for a few minutes before I stop!! My wife would probably have to go to ER if I did that.

I live in a small city on the "other side" of a mountain range where we have only one Jeep dealership. If there were a second dealership nearby I'd give them a try. Some good old competition might make them up their game a bit.

Like I said in post #14, I changed my filter only a few thousand miles ago, so it's been less than half a year. Since I did so during the colder months I didn't notice any stink until I started using the A/C again recently. I'll have to try again to remove that hose.
Thanks, I do now understand.... A can of compressed air (like those for the computer/electronics) would blow it out once you get the line off. You might want to try in both directions as the drain out of the condenser might be a bit slow also.
Let us know how it turns out........... good luck.

I saw early on in this forum there was I believe a TSB to cover this problem of stink/mold in the system. If under warranty that would be covered. It appears to be very labor intensive.

Actually, the fine gentleman who owned my Cherokee before me broke the tab on the housing that this piece connects to. Ha! I see that it's #11 or #13 on the diagram, but I don't know how to find those part numbers. Probably too much of a pain to replace that part anyway. :-(

Thanks for this, though! I'll definitely bookmark that part just in case!

Ah... I discovered that #11 and #13 are evaporator coils. So, I have no idea which part is the housing that the filter inserts into...

This hose? If so, did you disconnect the rubber hose from the plastic plug or did you pop the plastic plug out of the attachment point? I wasn't able to do either way easily and want to verify before I yank harder. Any tips on how to get it to move would be appreciated.
Toecutter,
Can you describe WHERE that hose is?

Thanks! Both of you @jeepreaper @Toecutter . I was looking everyone and couldn't find it.
It's obvious now... but I just wasn't looking anywhere near there. :(

Were you successful in removing the rubber coiled hose from the plastic fitting without breaking the fitting. Mine seems to be "glued" to the fitting and won't move. I don't want to break the fitting and make a bad problem worst.

I doubt that member is going to answer you, since they haven't logged on since 2019, and that post was from December 2013...Maybe someone else might be able to help though.. 😁😎
