I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4X4 took it to get its very first smog check, and I have very bad news. Even though, it passing SMOG, DMV will not issue my 2024 Tags until the RECALL is completed by the dealership, and they are months behind, they don't have the parts. The vehicle CAN NOT BE DRIVEN.
But you ignored the recall for over a year???

Yes you can drive it. I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited. I'm on a waitlist to have EMISSION RECALL U90 repair. I went to my DMV here in San Diego I paid for my registration, and they gave me a "permission moving permit until I get the recall certificate complete by the dealership. (You can still drive but you will not get your tags until service is completed)

What documents did you have to submit? I am getting a document of order from dealership for extension

Hi @memphisdepay007,

Does your Cherokee have a CEL? I think this thread was because in some States (e.g. CA) you cannot renew your registration with a pending open emissions recall (hence you need to go to your dealer and they give some sort of paper that can be provided to the DMV stating the part is unavailable etc.)

But if you're not on one of these states and you don't have a CEL or other code (OBD2), then there shouldn't be a problem other than waiting for your dealer to perform the recall replacement.
