2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Every problem you've ever read about these f&^%ing things I have experienced. This vehicle is full of issues but at this point I'm such an expert on troubleshooting and fixing them I think I only want to buy them from now on lol. I have found a solution that works on mine. Issue:
  • "Service Parking Brake" Message , along with the Orange cirlced "P" Alert symbol on VI Display
  • Any time the vehicle is put in park , the parking brake engages and no way to turn it off via the parking brake switch.
  • Uconnect software on media console is no longer supported, and is in fact deactivated on all 3G vehicles at this point and will not engage 'Service Mode' to release parking brake.
If youve read this far and this sound like you, then you know your stuck and very very frustrated! Well I currently have all of these things going on and still rolling around.. I'm sure you've read the fix is replacing the actuators and yes that ultimately will be my fix as well but in the mean time I have found the following to work
  1. Get in car
  2. Shut Door
  3. Put on Seatbelt
  4. Put hand on shifter knob and be ready
  5. push to start the vehicle
  6. Very quickly, (AS FAST AS ****ING POSSIBLE) put the vehicle in reverse and give a little gas to get rolling.
  7. The reverse motion disengages the actuator for some reason. The actuator is reverse threaded, so the reverse motion of the wheels is actually the same direction you would use to manually release the actuator if you pulled it off the vehicle.
  8. If this does not work or you were not able to get shifted in time. turn off the car. open the door as if you got out and shut it. Wait 15 secs and start at step 1 again.

This does not remove the light or the issue at large, and the actuator very likely will continue to malfunction up to the point of locking up in motion, but nonetheless this will temp "fix" the stuck parking brake on your car to get you rolling.

Is there anything anyone has found to deactivate this? I’ve been sitting at a gas station for four hours waiting for aaa to find a tow truck that has a dolly to tow me how because the brake engaged when I got gas and now it won’t disengage.

If he uses Uconnect to put the parking brake in Service Mode would that work?
Also, get your battery tested. I bought gas once and my 2014 V6 TH went into limp home mode from heat soak. My battery was tested as "at the end of its useful life".
While you are waiting. Put the Jeep ignition in RUN, do NOT start the Jeep, go to Battery Voltage in EVIC, the battery voltage should be 12V. If it is down to 10 volts you have a dead cell. I REALLY want to know what is happening. If this happens to me out in the woods AAA won't be able to help me.

I had issues with my 2015 jeep cherokee and they were all a result of water in he spare tire compartment. There is a recall for the rear hatch controller and all they do is relocate it a little higher up on the wheel well wall. There was no mention of the other 2 control units in the spare tire area. I literly had every error flashing, wouldn't start and battery drain. I ended up taking all the plastic around the spare tire area out and let it throughly dry out as everything including the insulation up the walls was wet. After letting it sit for a week I went out and it started right up and has ran fine since.:poop:

Hi there :)

Did you check the area under the spare tire for standing water, by any chance ?

Yup. The Drive Train Control Module (DTCM), Power Lift Gate Module (PLGM) and Electric Parking Brake module (EPB) are all back there and susceptible to water infiltration. Check the surround of the lift gate body metal edge. See if you see cracking in the filler material or have an open bolt hole missing a bolt (on the driver's side).
