They say when you think of something too much it actually happens.
2019 Limited with 57k miles started to intermittently have the 4wd service light come on and off like a month ago.
No weird noises, shifting smoothly switching to all terrain options snow, sport mud without issue.
The sticker on my window says 10/24 so I think to myself i am under 60k and i still have 9 months left for the 5 year sooo I’ll make an appointment in a couple weeks.
I made an appointment and they told me to bring it in next week ok all good.
I am about to drop off the car and i start discussing with the mechanic advisor about the issue bla bla and i ask him can you check to make sure i am still under warranty, he checks and he says your warranty expired yesterday 😳
I say how is that possible and he said that the warranty starts they day the car was first serviced or something like that.
My sticker is 10/24 which indicates the date was sold for the first time how is the car serviced for the first time in January 2019🤦🏻‍♂️
Long story short they couldn’t offer goodwill since I didn’t buy the car there.
The dealer I bought the car is not a jeep dealer it’s a generic dealer and the jeep dealer they partner they didn’t want to help either.
I took it to a mechanic that i know and asked him if he is comfortable troubleshooting something like this and he said yes.
So i went this afternoon to see if he found out and he said he called the jeep dealer that he usually buys parts from and they guided him through the whole process of troubleshooting and found out the actuator is stuck and locked on permanent 4wd mode.
They told him that they deal with this all the time and had the car diagnosed within minutes.
$750 for the actuator
$30 for transfer case fluid
$225 programming
$700 labor for a total of $1800 just to replace the actuator and pray to god that it will solve the issue.
Ive had the car since October and although i like the car this is very disappointing.
Back in November a month after i bought the car it sat almost 3 week at the dealer trying to figure why the left turn signal was out initially thought it was a headlight issue then a wiring issue then a module issue then the module was on backorder.
Dealer that I bought the car covered that its was like a $700 bill.
Anywah lets see how this one goes…

I thought at least by common sense that the warranty will start the date that the car is sold to the first owner since that’s the date that will be officially on the road.
By window sticker i mean the inspection sticker that indicates the month and year that the vehicle was sold for the first time. See picture below.
So you’re telling me if a car sits at a dealer for 2 years the 5 year warranty automatically becomes 3 year warranty
Because in my case that’s what happened
Car was sold 10/19 for the first time but had warranty starting date 1/19.

Every New car warranty starts on what is called the In Service Date, meaning the day it is sold new to the first owner.
These window inspection stickers you are talking about mean absolutely nothing, and the picture you show would be in the future and doesn’t match what you originally said in your first post . How can the inspection sticker be in the future 12 of 2028?
EDIT: OK the sticker date is when it expires not the date it was inspected, I don’t live in a state that requires inspections. Excuse my ignorance.
That’s not the sticker on my car that’s just for example
The sticker on my jeep say 10/24

The point is, that sticker does not tell you when the car was purchased and therefore has nothing to do with the warranty.
It really doesn’t make sense and i will elaborate my thoughts and why i thought i had another 9 months of warranty.
The 12/28 that i posted it’s from my company car that they gave me last month.
All new cars have a 5year inspection free period in NJ.
So if the sticker says 12/28 it means that the car is delivered to the first owner in this case me the 12/23 which is a fact and the warranty will start counting from the month of 12/23 since that’s how it works.
So why my sticker says 10/24 and my warranty expired 1/24 is weird.
If the delivery of the car to the first owner was 1/19 and that’s the date the warranty starts to count then my inspection sticker should indicate 1/24 not 10/24.
You understand my process of thought?
So either the dealer put the wrong inspection sticker initially on the car confusing the 01 with 10 or I don’t see any other logical explanation how could this happen.

Hey @Tico007

It has been fixed for a few months now, when i made the post.
No issues whatsoever ever since the actuator got replaced.
Never had any weird noises or not engaging to the different terrain modes even before, only the svc 4wd light sporadically popping up.
In my case the actuator was stuck on 4wd so maybe that’s why i could switch to all the terrain options who knows.
