Parking Brake Sticking?

Hi everyone,

I have had this happen a few times now... Like most, I usually use the parking brake when I park. Sometimes when I release the parking brake after a cold start up, it seems like the parking brake is stuck for a second then pops free.

- While still in park, I release the parking brake with the brake pedal pressed (as normal)
- I put the vehicle in to reverse or drive with the brake pedal still pressed (as normal no clunk or noise here)
- When I fully release the brake pedal, I do not move. I give it a bit of gas and I get this loud clunk as if the parking brake was stuck. It feels like it pops free and then I can drive normally.

It is really not a good sound and I cannot imagine this is normal. It does not do it all the time. Could it be freezing, this is the first winter I have had this Jeep.

No error codes have been thrown.

Anyone else have this trouble?

I use the automatic e-brake, where it locks or unlocks by itself. If I put the Jeep in forward or reverse, the parking brake only releases when I depress the gas pedal. If I don't hit the gas, the brake remains locked until I do so. If I manually unlock the parking brake, it releases immediately. Mine needs some lube as it "squeaks" when it releases, but still works like it's supposed to.

Maybe yours is not sticking per se, but you are feeling the delay from when it goes from locked to released.

Keep us posted if you decide to dig into it some more...
