I have the same 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and am having the same issue with accessing the Crank shaft position sensor. Did you ever figure out if it is possible to get to it. I have already removed both of the skid plates under the Motor. thanks in advance -Joe
Hi @powerfulideas2015 , I'm assuming you have the 3.2 V6 engine (both the I4 and V6 were offered on the 2014 TH), the crankshaft position sensor is on the side of the engine facing the firewall. It's about mid-point in the engine bay looking from in front of the car but again, on the side of the engine hardest to get to (ajacent to the firewall). If you search this forum you may be able to find someone who replaced theirs (it's not all that common) as to whether they replaced from the top-down (if it can be reached) or if it's better from underneath (as you mentioned, you have your TH skid plates off). The sensor has the usual "red clip" cable stay that locks the wire to the sensor connector. you need to pull the red clip back to unplug the wire with, say, a pick). The sensor is held in with (I think) a 10mm bolt. Note, it's super hard to get to. It might not even be possible without removing other components (e.g. the PTU).

One other way you might want to consider is going in through the driver's wheel well same if you were doing a transmission drain and fill. The sensor would be somewhere close to where the red line is pointing (crankshaft sensors need to read the rotation of the flywheel/flexplate so they're usually at the junction where the engine and transmission are bolted together. This approach will still be tight but might be able to get a small 10mm socket in there.
