So I'm quickly approaching 60k miles on my 2019. I know that there is not much listed in the manual that needs doing other then oil/filter change. Should I have them do anything with PTU fluid or transmission fluid? Or should I be good with oil/filter change? Want to keep tye jeep for at least another 10-15 years

no deep water fording. The Cherokee is overkill of the offroad use I do which is just forest service roads and such. is checking the RDM oil something I need to bring up with them or is it on their 60k mile maintenance check list?

That got replaced on December 30th it was working fine then literally but tye bullet in the Credit Union Drive thru, when I went to restart the jeep and had to be towed to the dealership on tye 29th. But it was replaced and ready to go the next day well before I got off work at 3pm.

Isn't the RDM a seal unit? That's what they told me when they replaced mine.

as sanghill wrote, it's all good, until it isn't. it's been shared that the RDM seals weep a bit. when I checked mine, it was low so I just added oil. it's a little inconvenient. see post #93 here

there's also other good info earlier in that thread

it's been suggested to check it once a year. I think @sanghill is the resident expert on this item

This pretty much sums it up: https://www.jeepcherokeeclub.com/th...lub.com/threads/2017-trail-hawk-rear-differential-2-fluids.248511/#post-3008845
I just drive the rear wheels up onto a 2 by 10 about 2 feet long. Stack 2 of them if you want. There is plenty of room to crawl underneath.
This lets you put in slightly more gear oil. No problem, it will migrate to the left side.
This is one of the few maintenace jobs I can still do.
Annually should work fine, it is letting it never get done for 10 years that is a problem.
FCA needs to make it a scheduled maintenance item.

Generally, and on my TH, the axle seals are just fine. The reason why the left axle seal weeps is because the gear oil migrates from the right side to the left side. So the left side has too much oil in it and the oil is above the top of the seal. It has to leak. There is even a little drainage channel under the seal. So obviously the plan was for the seals to leak. The RDM has a left and right side chamber, there is a small passageway between them. That is why filling up the right side will not immediately fill the left side.
The fill plugs each have a magnet. The oil level has to be high enough to contact the magnets or the magnets can not pull the metal filings out of the oil.
All of this is just useless information.
The important thing is to add the correct gear oil annually to the right fill plug hole and wipe the metal filings off of the magnet(s).
The only really difficult part is removing the plugs, everybody wants to see how much they can tighten them. When I put them back in I just tighten them only slightly. Then I can remove them easily the next time.

I'll definitely ask about that. Definitely want my Cherokee to last the long haul it's my favorite car I've owned. Want to get at least 10 hopefully 15 more years out of it.
