The rain sensor is just for the automatic rain sensing wipers...😉😎
Correction... in my car, the rain sensor is so my wife knows whether she's going to send me out during the thunderstorm to get the umbrella

No, it should operate the same as any other ADI Cherokee. I think the only "weather related" sensor that has any effect on our 4x4 system is outside ambient temperature. Under 40°F, and I think it's full time 4x4 all the time, if I'm not mistaken. It for sure is in freezing temperatures...😎

thank you flyby
so if I'm driving in heavy rain on the highway, say 55-65 mph & it's over 40F & I want to engage the 4wd, wondering if I should use sport or maybe snow mode because auto won't do it for me unless it detects hydroplaning or some kind of mismatch of wheel rotation?

It will still detect any kind of traction loss and adjust, unless you have the traction control off, or actually half off, when you push the button at highway speeds...😎

so just leave it on auto, in heavy rain?
Sure, why not? Mine is in auto 99%, at least on the pavement...😉😎

And that's in all conditions, including snow, unless it's super deep, like 12" plus, then I'm in 4Low

But remember @rumrunner in situations where maximum traction is necessary, at speeds under about 25mph, turn the ESC traction control completely off, or if you're not in a Selec Trac mode that doesn't automatically turn it off into partial, like auto mode, hit the button. Next time you are out on the beach, try turning it completely off by pressing and holding the button, until the yellow "skidding car" light on the dash cluster blinks 3 times, so it's completely off. I'm curious to see how it works with your ADI system on the sand. I think it might surprise you...😉😎

oh yeah I've done that on the beach. I have always liked snow mode on the beach because sometimes I think I felt it hunting & switching in & out of 4wd. snow mode takes care of that, & it turns off the ESC

there was that one time where I thought I was stuck & pressed & held the ESC light to get out of a situation, which was probably me not turning off the parking brake, which I did before backing out of the soft berm

my beach driving is very sedate. when I got those 4WD error messages I believe I did actually lose 4wd because I could feel some loss of traction. but never got stuck because of the FWD, near flat tires & slow driving

almost did the RDM top off last nite. called around to 2 dealers & found the jungle juice. hit the local Harbor Freight for a cpl pump options. but by time I got home, after a haircut, it was dark & I felt lazy. it was also a gym day. fantasized about doing it w/ morning coffee, but read a cpl work emails & decided to giddy-up to the office. fantasized about doing it at lunch time but with the rain & no nearby covered parking garages to cheat in, decided to look closer at the pumps & discovered the one that screws on is too wide for the quart jug. & after watching a cpl utube vids, ordered another that would screw on as intended. & tonight is date nite, tequila, beer, fajitas & a flick ... so anyway, soon ...

Great date night plans!

OK did the deed. guess I'll post too many pics here. but should probably post a separate thread for anyone else who wants to top off their RDM

can't say the fill plug socket fits any better than a regular 3/8" extension. glad I asked my mech to break the factory seal. it was still tight, but one little grunt & it was loose
Image

a bit awkward setting up the bottle w/ pump & tube
Image

chose this pump because it screwed onto the bottle & for this neat tip that holds itself in place
Image

did not have to hold it in place w/ 1 hand while pumping w/ the other hand. which is great because I would not have been able to do that with the limited ground clearance of my sport in my driveway. no Gary I didn't break out the ramps ;-). took about 6-10? pumps before it started to drip out
Image

then I drained the pump by putting both ends in the bottle & pumping until it was empty. this pan collected what dripped out of the fill hole
Image

then after I pulled that pan away more dripped out onto the grocery bags
Image

this is how much I used. from the black sharpie mark to the visible level now. 200 ml? 6.7 oz? might have to recheck that unit of measure. does that sound right?

this is the fill hole before I added anti-seize
Image

I intended to apply anti seize, just a thin layer to the outside surface not the threads. but it appears I got some on the threads too oops. hope that's not a major contamination. hoping it spread on just the threads & none got inside the RDM
Image

wiped off the plug. nothing really accumulated on the magnet. tried scrapping it w/ a gloved finger nail but couldn't really get anything off it. wiped off most of any anti-seize. terrible photo, the sun was going down & neighbors kids were asking me what I was doing. also tough to take phone photos w/ gloved hands
Image

awkward to thread the thing back on. so glad once I had it in position, it stayed & rotated it while I used just a thumb to turn the side collar. these are really nice fill plugs despite the outer rust. I think I got it tightened as much as it was when I crawled under
Image

took it for a spin around the condo complex & on a straight section put it into snow mode for a little "activation" I think, then back to auto for the return to the parking space

not much in the way of setup but there's no denying, you have too gather your materials & then cleanup after
Image

have to figure out how I want to store the bottle of juice, pump & pan

this is the Slippery Pete pump I used

Image

very easy to use. but unit of measure is cc?

"A cubic centimetre (or cubic centimeter in US English) (SI unit symbol: cm3; non-SI abbreviations: cc and ccm) is a commonly used unit of volume that corresponds to the volume of a cube that measures 1 cm × 1 cm × 1 cm. One cubic centimetre corresponds to a volume of one millilitre"

why would they a quart bottle but put milliliter markings on it?
To mess with your head...😁
That's a good thing that there was no metal on the drain plug. I probably wouldn't have used any anti-seize on the fill plug, but it's not going to hurt anything. Now that you have the setup, you can crawl underneath and check it out a few times a year. That's what I do. Did you notice any weeping from anywhere???😎

re: weeping, I'd have to keep an eye on it
re: anti-seize, should I take the plug out & see what's there & maybe wipe the threads & plug?

That's strange. Measures on the right are onces, right ? Don't know if it's camera angle or what, but onces aren't where they should be : 4 onces is in reality just under 120 ml, but the '4' I see there is almost at 160 -ish ? The next line on the right has no number but should be 8 onces (235 ml), yet it's closer to 300. So you took about 220 ml, which is close to one cup, if the left numbers are good. If we look at numbers on the right, you're correct it's more like 6 onces (and change).

I don't know, it's all wrapped up in the basement now. but I think we're in the ballpark
