Actually it might be a slightly dragging brake pad. The faster you go the more friction generated.

The only time in 5 years I got a burning smell was when I was pulling my boat and a Beaver tried to cross the 2 lane road in front of me.
4 hot brakes do smell the car up but the beaver survived...………. and that was important to me.
