We're looking at a 2015 Jeep Latitude 3.5l v6 without a towing package. What can you pull with the aftermarket tow package? We're looking to get an in line cooling unit to increase weight to 3000.
Hey Molly, welcome to the forum :)

Ok first, let's clarify a few things : is that a 2015 Cherokee Latitude ? And is it the 3.2L V6 ?
If answers to the above questions are yes and yes, then the Cherokee will be legally limited to towing 2000 lbs. And extra cooling won't be necessary...

Is there any way

Is there any way to increase the towing limit? There are many posts about this with different suggestions.
Buy a Cherokee already equipped with the factory tow package...😎

Yes and yes. The dealer has stated that they can add an after market tow package that would make it legit. Frustrating.
Well.. let's talk this over a bit more...

Does this Latitude have all wheel drive ? If so, do you happen to know if it is the basic AWD (aka AD1) or the AWD system with a 4 Low (aka AD2) ?
If this dealer says they can get it to tow 4500 lbs legally (which technically they can't for a 2015 without factory Tow package), then get them to put it in writing. This way, your butt might be covered for liability... but don't quote me on that.

Truth is : from 2018 and up, any Cherokee with AD2 or Trailhawk without factory Tow group can legally tow max limit with an added Mopar hitch and wiring ; FCA finally made this happen, but AFAIK you can't do that for previous years. Not legally anyway.

Wish I had a better answer for you...

And apparently, now it's gone again. I see the tow package is now limited by trim level, not engine, or whether ADI or ADII equipped...Weird?!?!😎

Great info because then I can respond to dealer. He just called with 'great news' because their Chrysler tech said they could install the whole harness system and no additional changes needed to make it just as a factory towing package ($800). The only thing being that we couldn't tow the Jeep behind anything because then it would need an in line cooler. ? It's all jibberish to me but I'm trusting you and looking for a Jeep with the factory tow package. Thank you so much. I think you just saved our family a lot of heartache.

The latitude is a 2015 with 4 wheel drive.

Thanks. Just know there are 3 different all wheel drive systems available for Cherokees : AD1, AD2 and AD-lock. Dealer saying they can make it like factory Tow package does not mean they can make it legally tow 4500 ; it's just them trying to sell you a hitch... Best thing is to find an AWD Cherokee with a V6 and Trailer Tow group. Check back here if you have any questions...

Wait what??? In order to tow the Cherokee behind, say something like an RV, it would have to be equipped with the Active Drive II 4x4 system. This allows for "FULL DRIVETRAIN NEUTRAL". This doesn't mean the transmission is in neutral, means that the 4x4 system is, therefore making the car "Flat Towable" with all four wheels on the ground. The ADII Terrain Select knob will look like this.
Edit- This is actually "AD Lock" on a Trailhawk, but note the little neutral button...(Thanks @Mark_) I don't want to confuse her...😉

Another difference is, ADII has a "4Low", which is a lower range 4x4 gearing. The Active Drive I system Select Terrain knob will look like this, with no 4Low, and no system neutral needed for flat towing...😎

I'm a little concerned about the dealer saying that "an inline cooler was needed" for flat towing??? I'm going to assume this unit is probably an AD1, and the salesman isn't really familiar???🤔

That is a scary statement for sure. Total BS, or person is totally clueless. If Molly wants to flat tow a Cherokee, we'll need to have another long talk...

I'm sure they "could" but it would take more than a hitch and harness.... LOL
