Good question. The update process basically disables the entire UConnect system during the update. I wouldn't drive, although others who have been brave enough to try can chime in.

I have driven while the upgrade is in progress with my last Cherokee (2016). I Lost Radio and alike till the upgrade was finished. You just can't turn off the Car till it says it is OK too.
