I don't think I've seen anyone mention it yet, but what are your thoughts on the Cherokee X?

It looks like it will now be the cheapest model offered, dropping the Altitude and Lattitude trims, and they will only have the 3.2L V-6 in the X trim. The base pricing has gone up a good bit also.

Just checked and wow. Fully loaded trailhawk now in my area over $47k USD.

There have long been comments that with the Compass and the Cherokee, Jeep had two models jammed into one compact SUV space. I guess they are trying to differentiate them more. Compass will have lower price and the four-banger engine. Cherokee is higher priced with better (apologies to four-cylinder fans!) engine. It would hurt right now to be someone who wanted. Cherokee but had been holding off the purchase!

The 4 wheel drive emblem looks kind of cheesy to me....
Yeah, that would have to come off.

I'm a little bummed that they removed all the options for FWD. I'm one of the apparently few folks who prefer the room and features of the KL, but I would rather have things like FWD and bigger wheels for street driving...I don't go offroad. Now, 3 of 4 trim levels offered are 4x4 only, and the remaining FWD option is only available with 17" wheels and minus many of the other features of the higher trims.

What is that, a sticker??? That would for sure be gone, and replaced with the old 4x4 badge, on the other side, where it's always been for the better part of like four decades or so...🤔😎

Apparently it does not have a rear locker, off road suspension, recovery hooks and steel skid plates, not a Jeep in my book.

Correction: It does have off road suspension.

When taking the obstacle course at Jeep shows or any off road adventure recovery hooks are required.
Pulling me out of my usual mud hole would be very difficult with no recovery hooks.

Does anyone read anymore? The VERY FIRST line of the linked article says "The 2022 Jeep Cherokee gains a new trim level that's less off-road-capable than the Trailhawk but comes with a similar look." I would assume that's what Jeep was going for...folks who want a similar look to the Trailhawk, but don't need/want to pay for the capabilities of it.

I guess I'll take my "not a Jeep" and go sit in the corner now.

Don't feel bad, I have all ready proved my TH is not a real Jeep, it cost me thousands of dollars in body repairs to prove it.
That is why I re-baged it as a Fiat.

This was the result of following stock Wranglers off road on the Pink trail.
I definitely can't read, I consistently failed English class for 12 years.

I think its just Jeep pulling parts out of the existing parts bin. I know for one that 4 wheel drive sticker is the same one they use on the willys sport wrangler. Just a way for them to save a few cents on their now base model trim. Though I will say for people who do not need all the trailhawk goodies. Having the 17 inch wheels and AT tires and 1 inch lift are nice for a base trim along with the V6. Yeah I know the price went way up but what new vehicle in current times has not skyrocketed in price? Basically none.

Hmmm, I didn't see any mention of the off-road suspension, just a 1" lift (which may be just the height difference between the FWD and ADI, but phrased/couched in advertising speak)
Any 2022 ADII is going to be easily over $40K when the destination fee is added.

Per the Stellantis Cherokee Fact Sheet:

New for 2022:
  • New Cherokee X trim pairs rugged off-road Jeep brand styling cues with a distinguishable on-road front fascia and new graphics for a unique exterior appearance. Also includes upgraded cloth/vinyl seats with unique inserts, 1-inch lifted suspension and standard 3.2-liter engine at a desirable price point (late availability)
So same height as the Trailhawk. Can only get that lift with the off-road suspension and the same tires as the Trailhawk. Also notice the "on-road front fascia" - same as the Lux and Limited. Also has active grille shutters like the Lux and Limited (per the specifications page). "new graphics" go back to those awful stickers, but it is unique so they got that right. "upgraded cloth/vinyl" doesn't sound like much of an upgrade to me.

Futher reading:

Sounds to me like marketing mumbo jumbo. So I guess they consider the 1" body spacers offroad suspension now??? Do they all have the same springs, struts, and shocks??? Apparently so. I do see that the X has 245/65/17's, but are they Trailhawk wheels??? I know that all past Trailhawks have heavier springs, and if I'm not mistaken, struts and shocks as well, and that was what was considered "Offroad Suspension"...Hmmm???😎

It’s really cheesy in my opinion, and honestly they should have just brought the Upland back from the dead. TraikHawk front and rear fascias and recovery hooks out of the door. Instead they make this. I don’t understand why they would use the TH rear fascia and not do the same upfront, that makes it look even more silly. I did notice Sangria Metallic got the axe, so that makes it a one year only color.

Good reading through this thread. Adding some first hand insight to some of the talking points. Just bought a Cherokee X and honestly didn't even know it had decals until I got up real close. Paint is Granite Crystal and is dark so it hides them pretty good 😊. Came with 17" Firestone Destination A/T tires and window sticker includes "Off-Road Suspension" in the list along with a rear tow hook. Assume it's the same as the Trailhawk. Definitely not that knowledgeable when it comes to cars. Love forums like these where you can learn so much.

Stick around, and you'll learn everything you need to know about your new Cherokee. Again congrats, and I hope you're going to love yours as much as I love mine...😉😎

Like stoolchamber I picked up mine this week. I'm not crazy about the 4x4 sticker but it can come off if needed. I live in the mountains at a small ski resort so lots of steep roads & no street lights.

In 6 years I've had 6 Wranglers & a JT including a Rubicon & Willys, 2 doors & 4. I decided on the Cherokee X even though I liked the TH. I just didn't see paying the extra for something I probably wouldn't use.

Wife has had a Limited since 19 that we bought new & it's been a great vehicle so far. I expect this X to do & go everywhere I need to go without a problem. Still like the Wrangler just wanted to try something different cheesy sticker aside. Not everyones cup of tea but it's not bad so far.
