Can I get 250,00 out of this engine/body package? My old 4L Cherokee Sport did. But it rusted a lot.

Proper maintenance, most important oil changes I have no doubt they will go the miles.
As Desoto mentioned one of his vehicles in his taxi service has gone 220k which I would consider severe service.
Can't get much better than that!

Hey Desoto - I had a real brainstorm - but it requires labor on your part. I read all kinds of reports of problems, and see various polls and collections of supposedly real life data, but don't feel totally comfortable in what to believe or not. But then it dawned on me that there was someone that just might have the absolutely best data available on the web today - seems like he has 7 Cherokee's I believe, and lots of miles on all of them. Is there any chance you have any fairly condensed data as to things like - what models, what engines, how many miles, how many transmission replacements, other serious problems, times left stranded, etc. Not the small stuff, just the biggies - any chance???

This seemed like as good a place as any to post this after doing some searching around. I am looking at 2014 and 2015 Cherokee Latitude 4x4s and doing the research. I know many in years past have Jeeps of various kinds last 150,000 - 200,000 miles plus without many issues or repairs whatsoever. I know we are only two, three years in but does it appear these models may follow the same line of reliability? I do see there have been some transmission issues with the 2014s but don't see much else that's been a regular, glaring problem.

I ask because many that I am looking at are in the $15,000-16,000 range and sitting around 40,000 to 60,000 miles. Most other manufacturers I would never even consider buying a pre-owned vehicle at those miles, but a Jeep I am much more inclined to at least look into. Also under consideration is the fact that the Powertrain is 100,000 miles leaving some time left and there are obviously 3rd party extended protection plans available.

Long story short, does that seem feasible to purchase in that price range for those models with that kind of mileage? I'd like to get a good four or five years out of one if I do pull the trigger.

I drive about 12 - 15,000 miles per year, about a 50/50 split between highway and city/suburban driving. I am in the Chicago area which is why 4x4 is attractive to me for the winter months. I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks, folks!

Hi and welcome !

Answering those questions is not easy. That's the best I can do.

One piece of advice : if you can, buy a KL built after May 4 2015. It's no garantee of anything, but it's a start.

If reliability is at the very top of your priority list, then I'd say buy a Toyota... (not kidding...).

Just reading this now for the first time. I am fairly certain Frank was the one who closed my deal on Saturday when I bought my Cherokee there! Too funny.

Got a 2014 Limited 4 x 4. Absolutely love it. Frank was great and worked hard to make the deal happen. Good experience all around at that dealership.

I did a sample from Blackstone labs at around 90k miles for my 3.2, and I got similar remarks. The only thing that was out of range was the flash point, but this was also oil that had over 8200 miles on it, so that could've been a factor (was 80% highway driving btw).

Otherwise, engine was very clean, and I got similar remarks when I did a sample analysis for my 2005 Mini Cooper S at 162k miles on it. Because of my painstaking consistency on changing oil on a regular basis (7500-10k on average), engine on the inside was squeaky clean.

I think some folks might be surprised how long engines can last just by routine oil changes alone.

Whether it is the Tigershark, or the Pentastar, 200 or 300k miles on these engines should be easily achievable as long as regular maintenance is performed.

Loving my Cherokee and have no complaints so far but if I did have one, it's that I wish I had the V6 versus the 2.4. You can definitely feel times where it's a little sluggish. It's not bad and is minimal and being somewhat nitpicky, but if it were at all practical I'd love to take it in and swap out the engine for the V6. I feel like that would make it perfect. Everything else has been great, though.

1) is there an expected service life for the timing belt?
2) I have 72,000 Miles on my Trailhawk. Just noticed the issue with it burning oil. I've been going by the computer recommend oil changes, is there any way to speak up the notification to change oil?
