One of the problems that Jeep has often encountered with the Cherokee has been not alienating Jeep buyers while attracting new ones at the same time. The massive redesign of the Cherokee has been received with polarizing views. Some believe it is a Jeep that will appeal to the masses, while others think it is really ugly (especially the head lights.)

Traditional design features that the Jeep keeps are: the seven-slot grille, lifted lights and trapezoidal wheel arches.

Has Jeep made a vehicle with the new Cherokee that stays true enough to Jeep for enthusiasts while updating the look enough to attract new buyers?

Well, this and the newly redesigned GC are the two vehicles that even have me considering Jeep when it was not even previously on my radar before - so they must be doing a decent job.

I've never been the hugest fan of Jeep, but there is a lot of hype around the Jeep Cherokee -- Enough that I am interested. If I am a new Jeep person who is interested, I wonder if there are any long-time jeep fans that can give their two cents.

Appeal

There are Jeep loyalist who pan anything that is not a Wrangler design... so ignore them.

I have owned CJ-7s and now a JK Unlimited and I am perfectly happy that Jeep wants to stretch out with new designs and higher quality vehicles...

The Cherokee has a better 4wd system, high tech V6 option and much greater towing capacity than similar sized SUVs. Now if it is a much fun to drive as the new Mazda CX 5 then it will be a winner.

Wait until your dealer gets a few in and test drive the 4 cyl and 6 cyl... and see what you think then.

Well to be fair the Wrangler has its capabilities that a Cherokee won't meet.

I'm a huge Wrangler fan. Had one in high school and been thinking about picking up a modified TJ a good friend is letting go for cheap.

When I think of a Jeep I think of a Wrangler with no doors and no roof. Now, I know there are far more Jeeps out there than that one, but that is what the icon is. The Cherokee can go through a redesign, modernize, etc... I just want it to keep that Jeep feeling.
