Why did you choose your Cherokee over Wrangler?

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I am just curious. For me, I was between my 2020 TH and a 2018 JKU Golden Eagle.

The biggest factor for me was price. I got the TH for about 28k, and the JKU was at 34k. I had a Mercedes E63 AMG at the time that was in need of a full head bolt and valve bucket replacement. It was my daily driver, and while I felt I could do all the head work, I would need more than just a weekend to do it, so I knew I had to trade it in and eat quite a bit of negative equity (about 4k worth). So going with the cheaper TH was clearly the better option there. Had I not been underwater on the AMG, it would have been a closer decision.

Towing was the next big factor. Long story short, I was being medically retired from the Navy, and it kind of popped up out of nowhere. Normally the DOD will pay for a move, but with the surprise medical retirement coming up, and my lease in Virginia ending before they said they would be able to move me, I knew I would have to pull my household goods behind whatever I traded the AMG in for. With the TH towing at 4500, and the JKU at 2000, the TH would likely tow most of my household goods. To tow with the JKU I would need a much smaller U-Haul trailer, so I would have to lose at least half of my household goods.

Interior was another big factor. The 2018 JKU if anyone knows, has a very spartan and bland interior. It was obvious the TH had the upper hand on this one. The TH kept the majority of the things I was used to in the AMG, just missing out on some of the minor options such as adaptive cruise, automatic high beams, and automatic rain detecting wipers.

Obviously with the Cherokee being closer to a crossover than a SUV, it rode closer to what I was used to. In just the short test drive in the JKU, my back really felt the rough ride quality, so that would have been a real stretch to try and live with the JKU (maybe the JLU is better in this regard, but way out of my price range) . I'm sure I would get some health care to take care of my bodily aches and pains eventually, but driving the JKU from Virginia to Michigan even if I didn't have a trailer behind me would hurt.

Now obviously I wanted the Wrangler for its superior off road performance and HUGE aftermarket support, which is why I went with a Trailhawk. Still decent enough off-road with a decent enough aftermarket presence. But sacrificing all of the above points just for that isn't worth it to me, especially with 95% of my driving would be on paved roads. Gladiator was on the top of my list, but to check off most of my boxes, I would need an overland or Rubicon trim, and that's just way too far off my price range at the moment.

So what about you? What made you choose your Cherokee?

My TrailHawk is one Bad looking machine. Much more so than other models. That's why and the leather seats and fixins are great.

If you ever driven a Wrangler for ANY distance you will completely understand my choice of the Trailhawk. I needed a daily driver and my Jeep is my only vehicle. The Wrangler absolutely sucks as a daily driver and is utterly miserable for any type of distance. Just my 2¢ 😎
Had a Wrangler, loved it, but all said here is true. Drive rough, soft top makes a lot of noise. They are made for short drives or off-road banging. I am older now and the Trailhawk is comfortable and destroys the snow. Leather seats, adjustable steering wheel, heated seats, and steering wheel. Drove mine 400 miles to ski comfortably.

Yea, we are the prettiest, that's for sure, and being unique is really cool. I get many accolades for my color scheme. Different and beautiful.

I can confirm your statement, as the former owner of 4 JK Wranglers and a JT Gladiator, I can attest that if you have to use one as your daily driver you will hate it. Every one I got rid of when it had to become my daily driver. A KL or WK2 is definitely a better choice.

The seats in the JK and JT are not comfortable over long periods, Wranglers/Gladiators are loud, the steering is vague and the ride is jarring.

We currently have a JK Unlimited as a 5th vehicle. The only way it makes sense is if you basically never drive it, which is what happens with a 5th vehicle.

I think you need to start collecting classics!!! Way more fun to just keep clean, polished up, and admire their beauty...LOL!!!😎

The Overland had heated rear seats, and the 2021 Limited Elite Package adds them as well. Don't know why we can't spec a TH up to that spec...
Don't remind me.

The fact they they off heated rear seats on 2% of the models sold, but not the highest trim off road model of a Jeep is absolutely wild IMO

I’ve had 6 wranglers and bought a 16 TH. Those 2 1/2 hour rides to camp are a lot more enjoyable. Love the better gas mileage and I can still play off-road. At times I still miss my wrangler but not planning to go back anytime soon.

We actually had bought a new Wrangler JKU Sahara, and ended up trading it in for the KL TH - we only had the JKU for about a year. IMO, Wranglers are awesome for many things, but not for me when driving on the road. In short, I couldn't stand its road manners on the highway. Once we tried a KL TH, there was no looking back.

I needed a 4x4 that could be easily flat towed behind my motorhome.

So then why the KL? I have a KL and a JK and they both flat tow just fine. Neither is easier than the other to hook up - but they both have their idiosyncrasies. The JK has the steering lock so I need a dummy key, and I need to pull a fuse. The KL has options like auto brake that need to be disabled. Time-wise it's a tie.

However, since the JK is heavily modified it is a lot heavier and a little harder to pull up the steep hills.

I prefer flat towing the KL if I'm not going to do hard 'wheeling.

My wife drives our TH and I drive our Rubicon, when it comes to the trails we do the same, except she parks it and gets in the Rubicon when the trail gets to much for ourTH! Pick it up in the way back! Happy Jeeping 😃

Wranglers actually ride fairly well when new, and with new tires, but with your typical half worn tires they'll beat you up on the highway.
That, and the comfort features are a little sparse. The Cherokee, on the other hand, is pretty posh considering its capabilities.
I was tempted by a Wrangler, as there is nothing more capable that a Rubicon right out of the box, but after I thought it through, I'd be hating life after a while on the highway. I'm definitely too old for that.

You got it. There's a reason everything else has independent suspension these days. I consider the reduced durability to be a sensible compromise for me.

I’m 57 years old and my 4 door Rubicon on 35s rides just as nice if not better than our TH on 32s. Now both at stock the Cherokee rides better on the highway, or it did until all the mods we put on it. But seriously who’s buys either a Rubicon or TH Cherokee beefed up for there ride?? If I want a smooth quiet drive then we drive our car or any car for that matter! Sacrifices for gains with Jeeps no matter which one you buy and do up! Happy Jeeping 😃

Since I have 2 wranglers now I can echo this. Compared to a KL a wrangler even a rubicon rides similar, maybe a bit smoother due to the higher side walls. Only thing is vs my Grand Cherokee and its air ride its not as good as that, but the money saved in gas more than makes up for it

I get 20 mpg on both our TH and Rubicon! But off road I get 12 with our Rubicon and 16 with our TH. Close and not close at the same time, tank size is 15 and 22 gallon. Toss up really?! Once again NOT hating but we didn’t buy either Jeep for mileage. By the way what does a Turbo 2.0 TH get for mileage? I’ve also never seen a turbo model done up right to tell the mileage difference. Here in Wisconsin 4.35$ for regular and 5.45$ for premium for the turbo! Something to think about?! Thanks for your feedback and your knowledge of Jeeps 😃
You don't want to know what I get in a 4xe.........
Since February i've saved over $1000 in fuel

I have a 2020 TH 2.0 Turbo and get 15 mpg in the city, maybe 20-22 highway.
