I believe they are already trying to expand to China.
They need to make smaller cars if they want to play in the asia market. So I'd say smaller cars. compact suv seems like a good start.

that would be interesting, i'd like to see how much of a jeep it would look like, but i bet it will have more european styling going on

 

I would guess a CUV. I can't see Jeep doing a sedan or a hatchback next, but a CUV could sell in China, Europe and the USA. For sure China will be the focus though. That is where all the growth is.

 

Yeah I was thinking the same for the smaller jeep cherokee would be the next focus after the cherokee rolls out. This new segment is getting a lot of attention believe it or not. BMW has the 2 series GT, Infiniti has the Q30 and a few other manufacturers have CUVs in the works.

 

If the smaller Jeep is going to do well anywhere it is going to be in china. for such a congested country with a huge population I can see them wanted CUVs to travel around in. Not in north america though.

 

I would like to see a worthy successor to the AMC Eagle

 

A CUV would be great but it think right now is a good time for Jeep to get into crossovers. Just like how the CUV market is exploding, Crossovers are too. I think a Crossover with Jeep-like characteristics will sell well.

 

We'll just have to see the last generations of crossovers didnt make it too well from what I could remember but one of the reasons why was because of their hideous looks.

 

What if it was something affordable but still CUV-ish, like the Nissan Juke, but better because it is a Jeep? I could see that doing well.

The Cherokee is small enough for me. I won't be going any smaller or I'd just get a sedan.

Yes sir the cherokee is already small enough. I can;t see them making anything smaller for the market. There is a chance but knowing the domestic followers they won't bite.

 

It could sell but I probably won't be interested.

It'll be hard to keep the off road capabilities if they make it so small.

 

It will sell because. 1. because of price, 2. if it has a unique Jeep-ness to it and 3. there are plenty of minis and fiats to prove a market for small stuff.

 

There is a market for small cars but is there a market for a small JEEP.

People usually associate Jeep with big 4x4s.

 

Mini Countryman... there are people who buy cute utes. years ago no one thought Jeep would make something like compass or patriot. If they build a quality vehicle people will buy it... not a big seller/high demand expectation like they are putting on the back of Cherokee

 

quality is key and so is holding the brands image, it think anything smaller than a jeep cherokee that has some jeep characteristics should just be sold under fiat

The original Willys of WWII fame is a lot smaller than anything built today... so why can't there be small Jeeps?
The heritage of Jeep is off-road chops... it is not completely beholden to only a single style, mechanical system, or era.

 

Everyone seems to think that jeep isn't going to build smaller, so does that mean you are thinking that Jeep is going to build something bigger than the Grand Cherokee? That would be a very large vehicle.

 

considering the Liberty was quite small, them going smaller and using a fiat platform for it isn't surprising.

apparently the CUV they're making will be as small as a ford fiesta, just to give you guys an idea

 

OK so they are going smaller. I read that the next jeep vehicle would be comparable in size to the Nissan Juke. So small but not too small.

I don't think that is against the brand image of Jeep either. Porsche came out with the Cayenne which was way different from what they are traditionally known for and everyone loves it and Porsche. I think that another jeep vehicle that was smaller could follow a similar course. A smaller car for people who like Jeep but don't want something as big as a Cherokee.
