Wax on. Wax off. Help me choose.

Thanks to this forum I've been using Turtle Wax Ice with great results. I just discovered Turtle Wax now has ICE SEAL N SHINE HYBRID SEALANT SPRAY WAX. Anybody used this? Anybody compared the two?

my dad swears by turtle wax ice. I preferred meguiars ultimate liquid wax but it is more work for more results. There are a bunch of new ceramic based ones out now that I have not tried. And I probably won't bother with since I now have paint film on 75% of my vehicle. For the other areas I have only had sonax PNS applied so far.
I use ceramic and it works great. I have been using Meguiar's hybrid wax which is good, but I'm considering switching to Chemical Guy's or Hydrosilex new off road ceramic coating. It's supposed to be specifically designed to help repel mud and dust off road, but it's like $45 so I haven't pulled the trigger on that yet... Just avoid cheap ceramics, they skimp on the silicone dioxide which is what the "ceramic" part of the ceramic wax is. Also for ceramic to really be effective you have to prep the surface and get it as clean as you can, preferably by clay bar. It's definitely A LOT more work so I'm still on the fence on if its worth it to do the ceramic coat once or twice a year or just use high quality "regular" wax 3 or 4 times a year. To be honest it's probably a wash in total time that it takes.
My dad too swears by ICE, enough that I have been using it for a couple of years now with good result. Prior to that it was a really excellent wax called Protectall, but I noticed it started being a bit more prone to hazing in the last few years. Maybe it was because a gallon lasted me more than a few years (little went a long way with that stuff). Recently I discovered Aero Cosmetics Wash/Wax which helps me to keep my 40' Motorhome looking good. What I really like about it is that it truly is a spray on/wipe off affair and never creates haze. Also it is high in UV protection and the big one....builds on itself as to shine and rain beading. I see rain still bead up if I have not applied wax for 3 months (this is a big deal when waxing a motorhome). It was designed for the aviation industry to keep private Jet's looking pretty. I have not made the jump to ceramics yet as the less expensive stuff get's very mixed reviews as it does not provide any more protection than other products. Try a couple of different things and create your own advice for your kids....

Seal and Shine is some good stuff. It has constantly had one of the highest gloss factors out of any spray sealant, and has great water sheeting abilities. Just not a "long term" coating, and would need rea applied every month or every other month depending on external factors.
Also look at 303 Graphene, P&S Beadmaker.

Now if you have a little time and want to put a little effort into it. Do a claybar, then one step polish with a da, then a panel wipe. Then coat with Jescar powerlock topped with collinite 845 wax.
I use the Turtle Wax Ice with great results. Cheap and effective...😎
TWI was my Go-To when I washed & waxed my Corvettes... in '15 I went back to Cherokees (Grand & now just Cherokee) and haven't wash/waxed my vehicle in 6 years. Costco drive through car wash only 4 me:

Quick Quack for me...Best damn drive thru carwash out there for $30 a month, unless you get behind the d#*khead that just came from the mud holes. Luckily mine won't allow them to go through like that. If I have any heavy offroad grime on mine, I go to the pressure washer place first, then the drive thru...😎
I'm a detail freak, so upset the pollen is horrendous. I can't detail her, within an hour it's green again. Any quality graphine, ceramic, or synthetic wax will work. Preparation is the key to a brilliant look. I do use the ice for touch ups.
Thanks a lot. I was checking out some videos on YouTube regarding how well these waxes hold up to washes and chemicals. The Turtle Wax products do extremely well even against some of the really expensive brands.

I used to use wax, but later I read somewhere that ceramic car coating lasts much longer. The wax seems to have 6 months of service, the ceramics from 1 year. And this is a big plus.

Ceramic is nice when done right. But thing is people have the mind set it is apply it and forget it which is not the case. It requires proper prep and then regular and constant maintenance washes and maintenance coatings. It is a waist of money if you do not take the proper steps to apply it and keep it up as true ceramic coatings are not cheap.

Agreed, that's why I'm thinking of just going back to regular ol wax. The time and effort and cost that goes in to ceramic is high and I'm not sure if it actually protects any better to make it worth it. It does bead up water relentlessly and makes washing mud a dirt off easier but if you just wax it every 3 months or so it's pretty similar.

I am lazy so I won't spend a lot of time on my daily driver vehicles. I have always used cleaner waxes but the carnauba wax in these don't last long. A couple of years ago I found Meguiers NXT Tech Wax 2.0 and it has been my go to wax ever since.

It is a synthetic wax so it lasts a long time, has enough abrasive to remove road grim you don't get washing and it doesn't stain plastic trim if you happen to get some on it. It goes on easy and buffs off even easier.

I have tried ceramics (like Mothers CMX the best) and use them on my Barracuda. But these coatings require at least a two step preferably a three step process to get good results. Because they contain no abrasive you have to at least polish the car first to remove road grim and old wax before you can apply.

For a detail spray I use Lucas Speed Wax. It works just like a detail spray but leaves a sealant coating behind and smells good.
Have used the ICE products exclusively on my Jeep since I bought it. Never been happier with car care products. Looks like TW is moving more towards the hybrid line though. I'm guessing it will probably be just a good.

The Seal and Shine is one of the best products I've ever used. So fast and easy it's almost like cheating.

Ok, well I just discovered the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Pro to the Max Wax. It is a graphene infused traditional wax. Apparently graphene is the new cool thing, but I read some great reviews of this stuff and decided to give it a shot. It is much simpler than ceramic. It goes on like regular wax but is supposed to protect better. A lot of the reviews praise its ability to give a deep gloss and great shine to the paint as well. I read a lot about graphene, it is supposed to be quite a bit better than the ceramic... So I suppose we will see!

Collinite Insulator Wax, or Chemical Guys Jet Seal are two of my favourites. Long lasting and easy on easy off, with a wet look shine. Detailers are Adams #1, CG Hydro #2 and 303 #3.

Ok I tested out the turtle wax to the max wax with graphene. It turned out pretty awesome. It does not leave white marks if it gets on the black trim which is another plus. The results aren't as stunning since my jeep is white, but it does do a great job. It made the surface really smooth and slick. And it definitely gives it that new car glossy shine. Now the next test is durability and how long it will last.

Griot's ceramic 3 in 1 spray wax.

It seems to last impressively, easy application. and looks good.. water beading is great too.

That's what I currently have on my Jeep, and durability seems good so far. Shine and water beading is good as well.

One thing I was disappointed with however, was that it didn't produce as slick of a surface as other products I've used. I have Sonus SFX-4 paint sealant on another car and the surface is so slick that rain just sheets off of it, rather than beading up. Never any water spots as a result. (y)
