Uconnect update on 9/24/19

I've had two head units replaced in my 2015 Cherokee. Both radios developed some kind of error conditions which couldn't be corrected. My present third radio has never received the 'over the air' update and I've never received any emails regarding new available software updates.

A friend who also has a 2014 Cherokee received an email regarding the newest available version. He told me to go to the Uconnect wed site and put my Vin # in to see if my jeep has an update available. It does.

So, I looked at the procedure, checked my software version and it's 16.16.13. The instructions say that I have to go to my dealer for the update being it's such an old version. So, I called my dealer and they have no idea what extra steps they need to take to install the latest version. I'm wondering if it's even worth the trouble to try an install the new update and stay with my old 16.16.13.

Any thoughts?

The update only fixes 1 or 2 things, both related to the GPS chip inside the unit.

As far as the "too old" issue....Im not sure. Part of me says you could try to download and install the update manually, but that means you would rely on the installer saying "sorry cant install this, go see dealer" and Im just not sure I have that much faith in their programming.

It could just be a matter of having to go to a newer version first, like from your 16.16.13 to 17.43.01 THEN to 18.45.01.

How do I select an older version such as 17.43.01?

Also, has anyone tried to update to the newest version directly from a very old version like 16.16.13?

As I had mentioned, I never received the OTA update.

It seems that I'd have to go through more gyrations than I'd like to, in order to download the newest version.

With that said,,... At present, my Uconnect head unit is working just fine. No issues with the clock, navigation or any of the other features. What's that old saying?? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I'll just stay with my 16.16.13
