I believe this is also in line with the fact that Uconnect only has an iOS app for the American Market only.

Developer-wise, I don't think there's a built support system for Canada, at least for the time being.

>.< praying for the ability to have this soon though it'd be really cool!

I was also looking into this as I wanted the Uconnect App. There are two possible options to go about getting this, that I've found so far. First is very expensive. You have to buy a new Navigation console from a US dealer. This can cost as much as $4000 for a new system. Another option, and this hasnt been confirmed yet, is its simply a firmware upgrade that you can get, again from a US dealer. Its uncertain at this point if the wifi connection that the vehicle provides goes off of the GPS or if it has its own, separate antenna and/or hardware.

From what I've seen on their own website the apps are divided into Uconnect apps which use on an integrated WWAN modem and only available for Sprint in the USA. Then there are the Via Mobile apps that utilize your own smartphone's data connection. While I would have loved to have the Uconnect features, there is no valid reason that I can see for them disabling the Via Mobile apps.

Downloading and installing Apps require a data connection, usually through a cellular network. Sprint is a nationwide carrier in the US, and Chrysler made an exclusive deal with them. The problem with Canada is we don't have a nationwide carrier. Rogers and Telus provide partial coverage in parts of the country, and they don't play nice together. I like apps on my phone, but don't think I want anything like that on the car's UConnect. (see Jeep Hack). Our data rates are also way too expensive, it would kill us.

Not sure how you came to the conclusion that we don't have a national carrier or that the big 3 don't play nice together. Bell and Telus have had a network sharing agreement since the 90s for pretty much seem less coverage from coast to coast for both of them. The only carriers they never played nice with were the new entrants like Wind and Mobilicity. The only places you might get erratic coverage are the less populated northern areas, but those areas are served by regional carriers like Sasktel, MTS and Tbaytel who have always worked with the big 3.

Remember if you get the uconnect apps there are monthly charges and you get a system that is not even close to a good smart phone. Once you get your smart phone working with uconnect you got all you need for communication texting, email, phone, and the whole internet totally hands free. Cheaper to just add on a larger data package with carrier. Plus Siri is light years ahead of communicating than using a uconnect artificial intelligence that has a hard time even with a few spoken commands

Use your vin to get the correct updates, there are some links to follow for instructions. Use a 8gb flash drive and format it before coping the files to it. There were 2 updates available for my cherokee , i installed just the latest. Nicer voice for the navigation system after the update.
