I posted a question about this earlier, but now I have more to ask and it won't let me edit it, so I'm posting them here. :)

First off, does the Bluetooth connectivity cost money? I see that the UConnect service comes with a monthly fee, but what if my wife just wants to hook her phone up with Bluetooth? Is that free?

Also, could I hook a tablet like a Kindle up this way? To listen to audio books or music.

Thanks! I've been googling with little success.

Here's what little I know. My dealer hooked up Bluetooth for me (I'm always saying I don't have a smartphone, I have a dumbphone. Turns out the phone is smarter than me - I didn't even know I had Bluetooth on it) and it didn't cost me anything extra. However the limited came with one year of Uconnect free. I will have to pay after that.

Music, etc can be played thru the USB port with a connected device so as long as the iPad or kindle can be hooked up with USB, should be good to go.

Just using Bluetooth connectivity does not require Uconnect, so yes, bluetooth is free.

Jon, bluetooth is completely free to use. No need for any type of bluetooth plan on the jeep or on your phone. uConnect 8.4 supports the latest bluetooth profile. So if your phone supports it, the car will be able to stream music, control the track playing, and even download your address book, and text messages. If any of these features are not working for you it is most likely because your phone does not support it.

Yeah, my wife has the Dodge Dart so I have had some practice with these systems for a while. Nothing is needed as others mentioned - enjoy it!

Think of Bluetooth as a near field transmit/receive function. It only works within about 10 feet.

JonJones, there are a few different systems going on here.

The uConnect for your phone (bluetooth) does not have/need a subscription. Ever.

There is an optional uConnect Access package (where the first year is free) that allows you additional features. This is a monthly fee.

In addition, the uConnect GPS maps will alert you that the data is old after a year or two. It's completely optional if you want to upgrade or not.

Hope that helps.
