I have 750 miles on my TH. Purchased it on 12/13/13. Since then, while driving on the highway at a steady 60 mph to 65 mph my transmission has kicked out of drive two times. It feels like it switched over to neutral. My road speed decreases. I can press the gas pedal and the engine rpm's increase, but no go. No ERROR codes. Once it slows down to around 45mph to 50mph, the transmission engages and all is OK.....so far. Both times when I noticed this happen, it was while I'm driving easy. What I mean by this is that the Jeep is running at a steady speed with limited gas pedal input and no transmission shifting needed due to road grades. It's a little scary when this happens on a 3 Lane highway in the dark. Anyway, I contacted the dealer. Still waiting to see if I have to bring it in. I'll keep you updated.

Just a quick update. I'm scheduled to have both TSB's for the transmission software done next Saturday. So far, it has only done this the 2 times I mentioned above. I'll let you know if it happens again before the flash.

I mentioned this back on 12/24 when asking about transmission temp in a thread. I also had the transmission drop out of drive on me once when traveling at about 65mph, hit the gas was like I was in neutral and it just coasted til it picked up a gear again. It hasn't happened again.

Here we tend to have a number of large loaded double trailer gravel trucks driving on our freeways. I can't imagine driving at about 65-70mph on a freeway with a double loaded gravel truck behind me tailgating and my transmission decides to shift into neutral. Please let us know the outcome. Does it seem that this new transmission is so complex and computer controlled that being like a computer, it does things that are strange and unexplainable at times. You know like all of our home computers do at times. Only the problem is that you're driving it in traffic and if it "decides" to do something weird, your life or your families lives could be in danger. Not that it is something to worry about and take away from our enjoyment in driving our Cherokees, but to me it definitely is a concern, especially when my wife is driving alone. So far my Cherokee is doing fine though thankfully. Hope your problem is repeatable at the dealer and they find out the cause and fix it soon.

I had this same issue at well but lost ALL gas pedal power at 65 miles an hour on the side of the interstate and had to be towed to the dealer. Very dangerous situation. Trailhawk V6 with 200 miles on it the day it happened. Dealer today reflashed the transmission control module with version 14.0. My jeep was built on 12/13 and dealer claimed it came with version 13.9 or near that. Claimed the issue was it needed the newer update which it didn't have. Two bulletins on this very issue that they showed me and claimed the reflash will fix it it - my confidence is very low. They also noted that they are NOT notifying all owners that you need this fix and it's a case by case basis is Chrysler will approve it. Scary that this issue is probably out there and will happen to other unsuspecting owners. We shall see how it goes.

Sorry guys! No update yet. I was supposed to have the transmission flashed last Saturday. About 15 miles from my house I got caught in a traffic jam due to a clipper snow storm that was coming through, so I turned around and went home. I'm re-scheduled for this Saturday. So far, it hasn't happened again, but I still don't have that warm and fuzzy feeling that everything is OK. I really like this Jeep so I'll be patient and hope that Chrysler does all of us right. I'll keep all updated if it happens again before this weekend and what it feels like after the flash. This has become my wife's ride for now, I just picked up a new JKU, also in Anvil. Now I have 2 mod lists.

Same issue here

Seems like the first time I reach about 61 mph for each ignition cycle the transmission goes numb for a few moments. Pressing the gas pedal does nothing. I just have to wait a few seconds before the transmission reengages. I'm also a TH V6. Definitely going to dealership now I see that it's not just my vehicle.

Hi Mark:
Had the exact same thing happen to me. Weird thing is I purchased my TH on 12/13/13 also. My problem started on the third day I had the car. I immediately went to the dealer and had the transmission reflashed. Have had no problems since then. Good luck.

Of course 12/13/13 was a Friday!
Thanks for the update.
I'm looking forward to getting this transmission software update done!

Finally got the TH in to the dealer today. Transmission is now flashed with the latest software. There were no stored error codes. After the flash we put about 160 highway miles on it and there was no kicking out of gear. As others have also said, after the flash, I have also noticed that the 1st to 2nd gear shift is much smoother. All I can do now is monitor it.

Glad I am not crazy

Have a Granite, Limited V-6 FWD with 2500 miles. I had the scary experience of having what I thought was a loss of power as I was slowing to around 60 mph getting off the interstate. I told the service advisor that I was not sure exactly what happened but the Cherokee did not respond when I gave it gas, the speedometer just went down, it kicked back in seconds later but it was scary. It did it about 2 days later, almost the same spot on the interstate going to work. Now that I read the forum posts it seems that I am not the only one. When I brought the car in for service, they told me this was not what the TSB was for but from what I understand they are going to do the flash and the relearn. It has been in the shop for 2 days now. Hoping to hear. I am sure they thought I had no clue what could be wrong.

Update; dealer said no code so they are not doing anything. Figures, they could not replicate it. I talked to another dealer about an hour away that looked up my VIN and said they would do the update. I guess I could see if it happens again or take the drive.
