In a word, "No".

But, I do note the Jeep Compass with the 2.4 liter engine (172 hp) will tow 2000lbs. So would guestimate about that amount.

The 3.2 liter V6 is supposed to tow 4500 lbs. Don't know if that engine is available in the entry Sport model, however--don't think it is.
Time will tell. I'm interested in the V6 with 4500 lb capacity. Better than Ford Escape, Forester, RAV 4 etc. Could tow a small trailer which I'd like to do.
Hope the Jeep reliability has improved....
Reliability is something to hope for as an improvement in the brand. the towing capacity should be reasonable just depends on the engine you go with. I won't be hauling anything around too often except a couple times in the summer for the trips to the cabins.
I think base I4 engines can do 2000 LBS / the V6 with tow package around 4500 if I read the brochure correctly.

I don't think this is a good vehicle to tow a couple of horses... Maybe a GC but I'd think the Durango would be the best SUV for that job.
being able to two 4500 LBS is pretty good for an SUV like this, i doubt the competition has a towing cap near 4500 LBS. Perfect towing cap to tow your race car on a trailer :D
Actually there are other SUVs that do close to 5000lbs.

There are better towing capacities on the larger SUVs and nothing beats the big ones... when you compare to its class size... RAVs, CRVs etc... yeah its more.

Now, size matters and the more you get to 4500lbs, I think the more this will stretch a Cherokee. If you move up to the GC or Durango at 4500 lbs it will be no sweat at all.

I think the Cherokee and GC are both sharing that same 3.2L Pentastar V6. (Optional in the Cherokee - standard in the GC) but perhaps other than a towing package there is more involved in towing.
Makes me wonder what the point is in getting a 4x4 model with the 4 cylinder.

Does the 4 cylinder have any real torque to do any offroading?

A 4 cylinder motor on a model that has a lift kit and skid plates sounds silly to me.

The only point would be a) $$$ savings or b) if you were to get a LTD model that is primarily going to do pavement duty where you might save some $ on fuel.
