I just checked out some of the Tails of the Trailhawk videos that Jeep is putting out to showcase the Cherokee, and i have to say I'm relatively impressed.

The MOAB traction video was the one that struck me most, for a Jeep thats supposed to be blasphemous, incapable and engineered for soccer moms and gravel alleys it crawls that face pretty good.

I highly recommend clicking through the video to youtube and reading some of the comments, man are people PISSED!

Definitely some 2014 Cherokee haters out there. I, for one, am a little more optimistic. And based on the test drives take by the big automotive magazines/blogs, I'm sure I will not be disappointed. Now if only Jeep would hurry up and start assembling my order!

Im really more impressed with the on road opinions. Considering how much better it is than the competition off road I figured it would be almost unbearable in the corners. Overall Im excited. I just wish I could get one sooner. Prolly be next summer for me. :(

agreed. its got great climbing ability.

as for climbing huge boulders im not as sure but just the angle of these mountains and the traction control and 4x4 does a great job.

i've watched all of them and its impressive for a soccer moms jeep.

This is a really cool piece of marketing that only Jeep can pull off. The Cherokee is the only vehicle in the segment with any kind of history whatsoever. Seeing these vids though makes me think Jeep knew they were going to get backlash for putting the Cherokee on the FIAT FWD frame and this is almost a form of before hand damage control to show the haters and the doubters that this cherokee is not another patriot or compass but a real Jeep. Mind you it seems most of them dont care and just want to complain that Jeep didnt make the Cherokee IDENTICAL to before..

the reviewers always have a hard face when it comes to individual car reviews anyways. It might be different when we get in and go for a drive.

automakers always take a chance in switching up the style but that is a given. You can only move for with change. If it remained the same you would still get complaints like "Why buy the new when it looks exactly the same!" So you can never win. But on the flip side at least we have a new face to look at right? ;)

Oh absolutely, its just jeep has never been a mainstream brand, and for them to alienate thier loyal, loyal followers it has potential to mess with sales. I'm not one of those people, I for one really like the new direction Jeep has taken the Cherokee, just looking at things from a pure marketing standpoint..

Impressive, but totally irrelevant to me as I can never see myself "rock climbing" as per the video. I do need full 4x4 capability & stated towing capacity to pull my boat out of some of the "dicy" boat launches that I visit from time to time, and I also need full 4X4 capability for some of my "end of road - more like bush trails" fishing trips without my boat. I also have a long steep driveway that can become a nightmare during some of our notorious Ottawa winters. I also need an economical daily driver, and the Cherokee seems to be the only vehicle that comes close to meeting my stated needs. My only current concern is interior storage space - need to be able to get 4 golf bags in back - life is tough being retired - LOL.

My current Liberty does all of these things, and she is getting old & tired, but she has made me a loyal Jeep fan.

Jeep needs to set up some test drive events in the city for people to try out the capabilities of the CHerokee

I saw a similar event for when they released the new Range Rover. It was a bunch of fake rocks and ramps that they set up so you could climb over them. It was in the middle of the city in a parking lot

Lots of people were lining up to try.

It's fun to freeze-frame the Rubicon video to spot the body damage. (Maybe $2K-3K worth.) Remember that this was a brand-new vehicle when they started. You will not be seeing any actual KLs on the Rubicon trail any time soon.
