Has anyone else confirmed if this method works for them?

It hasn't for me, however the squeak is quieter.

Got my jeep back from the dealer. They replaced entire rear diff. This is diff #3 on this jeep. Factory one and 2 replacements.

#3 is different part number the the previous one. Hopefully improved design.

Bumping this thread.

The squeak has been driving me insane, replaced all brakes and rotors and still the consistent squeak. Was starting to get worried that my diff was gonna grenade soon. Once the rain stops I intend on trying the lithium grease trick. Hopefully that's the remedy! 😄

Update: YEP that was it.

I blasted both sides with some MOOVIT lube I had kicking around, squeak started to get quieter and quieter till it went away entirely. Took a hard left turn and it came back though so I coated it with some more and I'm gonna let it soak in for a few hours. Crazy that a little dust shield can cause so much noise.

Update 2: The lubricant I was using doesn't seem to stay. It'll quiet everything up for a very short period of time then the noise comes back. I can't tell if it made a difference overall, but I think I'll give the lithium grease a try before I start ripping parts out.

I used WD-40 White Lithium Specialist lube and had the same results as your second update. I'm not sure if other brands are any thicker/stickier.

How is there no TSB for this if it's so common?

I honestly won't mind it if I know no damage can come from it. I'm not overly confident that if I leave it untreated that there won't be any further issues. Kinda annoying compared to a traditional 4wd

I don't mind it until I have to drive down quiet residential streets at night. Then it's pretty loud and hard to ignore. Both my KLs did this, so it is definitely a design flaw in the seal or shield.

Damn, how loud is yours? Mine just sounds like some wear bars on brakes.

I also gave it a shot with some white lithium and all noise is gone unless I'm going about 15-20kph. Still just as bad at that speed

It's the same type of noise. Not overly noticeable with the windows closed during the day with other traffic around, but enough to turn a head or two at night on a quiet street.

I've had my 2015 TH for a couple weeks now. I've noticed a squeak/squeal that sounds like it's coming from the rear end. It only occurs when rolling. It doesn't seem to be the same high pitched sound that most describe as many hear that when the vehicle isn't moving.

It ALMOST sounds like a brake level indicator but with 23K miles I can't imagine it's gone through a set of pads yet. I've read somewhere that there have been issues with rear axles and read diffs. I've also read many have gone to the dealer and have been told squeaks/squeals are "normal". But it's really starting to irritate me as I drive around in our cool fall weather with the windows down.

Has anyone else experienced this?
My squeaky rear was due to loose bolts that attached the rear exterior visor to the rear hatch...😅 Took me a while to figure that out...
