I've had my 2015 TH for a couple weeks now. I've noticed a squeak/squeal that sounds like it's coming from the rear end. It only occurs when rolling. It doesn't seem to be the same high pitched sound that most describe as many hear that when the vehicle isn't moving.

It ALMOST sounds like a brake level indicator but with 23K miles I can't imagine it's gone through a set of pads yet. I've read somewhere that there have been issues with rear axles and read diffs. I've also read many have gone to the dealer and have been told squeaks/squeals are "normal". But it's really starting to irritate me as I drive around in our cool fall weather with the windows down.

Has anyone else experienced this?

30 views and no responses tells me that you are alone on this one ;-}

If it were my KL I would probably pull both rear wheels and check the brakes and wheels for junk and alignment. Be a pisser to take it in only to find a shield had dent in it....

If you can manage to record the sound we might better be able to help you.

Jones you're not alone. I've been experiencing this as well. I haven't taken it to the dealer or pursued it any further because I couldn't really describe the problem. It's actually becoming quite worry some

Ive been experiencing it since i had 20 000 miles. Lots of visits to a dealer with no luck. And only after the third visit they said it looked like a dried seal in the rear diff. They replaced the seal and the noise was gone. I can not garantee this is the only problem and the solution, but at least my 2 cents

I have a noise when moving too, but do not know if it is this or another problem. Took it to the dealer a few months ago, and of course they "could not replicate", even though it was still making the noise when I picked it back up.

Hi vegasjones,

There was a TSB released earlier in the year for a squeaking in the rear diff area. Do you want to send me your VIN? I can check to see if that one applies to you, maybe that will help.

I sometimes hear that squeak at the rear especially on humps on our TH. Thought that was normal.

Do you have a link to the TSB? Has anyone gotten a resolution to this problem? Mine has been noisy since I bought it, but seems to be getting worse.

Hi Dino--we don't provide TSBs externally, but if you wanted to send me your VIN, I can check to see if the TSB is active on your vehicle. I know you sent a PM about something else as well, and I was going to ask for your VIN anyway!

Same situation for me, i even told them to drive it next to a building slowly with the windows down and you can hear it easily. They said the cant hear a thing and found nothing wrong, but on way home on my road lined with trees i could hear it very easily.

okey so i am not the only one with the squeak sound. its bugging me cause its fairly new TH. its 2014 with 67 K miles but hey what the heck... its not an old horse with carriage)) why should it squeak. i paid to dealers 135 for defining what it is. they replaced in the rear diff something. kept my car for 5 days. and the same freaking squeak. i like to drive with my windows open in hot Florida. and when music is off - its annoying.
besides i am more worried about the rating noise behind dashboard. but its more somewhere inside closer to driver. i think something like attaching to the motor. the sound became more obvious. i took it the dealer and the service guy told he was sure its the front axle which i told him i was sure its not. again. replaced it. same freaking sound.
otherwise car drives great so far. gonna go again.

Hi! I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee TH. I purchased it brand new and curreny mileage is 35,553 miles. I have taken the jeep back and forth to the dealership over a dozen times for the same squeaking noise as you have described. It does it when I use brakes and it does it when I don't uae brakes. I have had dealership say rock between rotator, debris in axle boot neither of which solved the issue. Also they replaced an axle seal, few months later the noise returned. This is so aggravating bc I am told it's fixed when it isn't. Can someone please help?

My 2018 is squeaking. Last summer they replace le axle seal. It went away but now it's back. I'm going to bring it back again.

Hi jechannell and greaserman,
We understand why this may be frustrating. If you would like some additional assistance while your Jeep's are at the dealership, please send our team a private message and we would be happy to have a case escalated for you!

Can you please explain what you mean by escalate? Or additional assistance? I live in canada. I'm sure that wont be an issue as I know FCA values all customers equally no matter where they are from.
