Hi guys,

I have the regular 6 speaker stereo, does anyone know the speaker sizes? Also, if anyone has the links to the schematics for the screws would be great!

I had some good luck dropping in basic Clarion co-axial and triaxials on my last car and want to give it a try. The dash mount speakers sound especially muddy.

Thanks,

Dolbyjeep

I have the upgraded system with the extra speakers, subwoofer, and amplifier. I am extremely pleased with it. I would say it rivals my many thousand dollar Home Theater system. I do agree though that Chrysler needs to get on the stick and publish the Cherokee service manual so we have the kind of information you are looking for.

I am also pleased with the quality of the base system.

The 1 inch tweeters would explain it! Some songs are fine, others are very buzzy. I'm going to look for some install promos. If anyone can find a dash speaker install blueprint, that would be awesome!

Hi macfan. I opted for the Alpine Radio upgrade in my Cherokee as well but I'm still waiting for delivery. The dealer did not have a model with this radio so I ordered it without trying. My fear is that the bass will be too strong. I like a little but certainly not a fan of a pounding bass. Any comments on that?

Thanks,
Tony

I am 63 and don't care for the bass pounding either. There are all kinds of setting in the system (equalizer as well as surround sound) to set it where you like. My salesman is kind of a music/technology junky so I let him calibrate my system. I don't know how to better describe it but he has it sounding very professional. Most of the time I have it at background level sound and it is very soothing and mellow, sort of like dinner music. Again though, there are enough setting in the system that you can customize it anyway you want.

Does anyone know the speaker impedance for the stock 6 system? A quick Google search has shown up both 2 and 4 ohm for Jeep products. Also, some people have bought the upgraded Mopar Kicker system only to find it's the wrong ohm. Thanks!

I've asked this same question before, and have found little info on it aside from the accessories speakers listed on the MOPAR website for the 2014 Cherokee. The show 6x9 two-way speakers as well as a component setup with 6x9 midrange speakers and 1" dome tweeters, which I assume go in the dash. I was considering replacing my speakers with aftermarket, but the standard system sounds good enough that I don't know if I'm motivated enough.

Does anyone know if the standard system has a center speaker in the top of the dash? Also, can the sealers be replaced by just removing the grilles, or do the door panels have to be removed to replace the speakers? That will play a big factor in how motivated I am to replace them.

Not sure on most of that, but no center speaker on the base 6 speaker system.

I have an aftermarket system from my old Jeep that I'd like to put in the Trailhawk but stereo shops don't have schematics for it yet. I have the premium sound package but even at low volume it doesn't come close to the quality of the one sitting in storage in my garage. I'd at least like to switch out the subwoofer if I could find out the dimensions of it without tearing into my new Jeep.

Here are some key points from my conversation with a Crutchfield advisor:

All four door speakers are 4 ohm and are 6 x 9. The dash speaker from the factory are listed as 8 ohm and is 3.5.

The dash speaker grills pop off and do not require the A - pillars to be removed.

They are all a very shallow mount:
For the dash it is 2.027, front door depth is 2.171, and rear door depth is 2.867, all in inches.

They do not have any speakers that will drop in, but offered brackets for free that allow these Sony 6.5 inch speakers to fit in all four doors:

He also said that going with a 4 ohm dash speaker will not affect the U Connect , but will make it louder in the front staging.

If anyone feels handy and can verify the dash speakers, that would be great! I wanted to start with those anyway.

Ugh! Thanks for the research, dolbyjeep. If the Crutchfield folks are correct, the choices for a simple (and good) speaker upgrade will be limited and may not be worth the time and expense. I seriously doubt that just changing out the easy to reach door speakers with the recommended Sonys would make any major improvement.

Even worse, adding an amp and sub upgrade will probably be complicated and expensive. To get aftermarket amps to work with my 2006 Grand Cherokee nav/head unit, I had to use a $600 dsp and separate remote. I had hoped to add a good 5-channel amp, speakers and a sub to my Trailhawk, but the 8.4AN may require a signal summing device and/or a dsp to work with aftermarket amps.

At this point, the factory stereo upgrade really looks like a bargain. Time for more research...
