OK, just bought my new Cherokee on Saturday. I've been a long time Jeep owner and traded in my 2001 Grand Cherokee. Wow, what a cool vehicle. I'm pretty old school (you should have seen all the cassette tapes in the 2001!) and wasn't sure I'd been too keen on all the technology in the new Cherokee, but I'll have to say it is really nice and truly useful.

One question I have relates to the gear selector. When in Drive, you can move the lever to the left and there are markings + and - suggesting you can manually select when to shift gears (nine of them!!). However I not seeing how that would actually work. Now one would think this would be covered in the Operator's Manual, but since that seems to be primarily devoted to the use of the Uconnect system and how to install baby seat correctly, I am unable to figure out exactly what this does. The dealer wasn't too knowledgable during the test drive (he knew how to work the "big screen" however).

Anybody know the answer?

Thanks.

Using the +/- allows you to indicate the highest gear the transmission can use.
It's not an autostick.

If you select 3, for instance, the transmission wil be able to use gears 1,2&3.
Selecting 6, allows gears 1-6 to be used, etc.

It is called Electronic Range Select (ERS) Operation. Look on Page 429 and 430 of your owners manual for operation. I would load them here but I can't do it on this computer. Sorry...

Thanks. I assume there is an on-line Owners' Manual. The one in the glove box doesn't have anything close to 429 pages.
Call Chrysler and ask for the full Owner's Manual.

Additionally, the CD in with your User Guide will have a pdf version of the full Owner's Manual.

I called Auburn Hills and yesterday I received a big package via UPS from Chrysler. In it were four big books. The full owner's manual, about two inches thick, two manuals for the Uconnect system, and a full warranty manual that is kind of interesting. All of this at no cost to me. Now the only thing I want is the full "service" manual that is about the size of a New York telephone directory but Chrysler says it isn't out yet.

The service manual is a paid purchase unfortunately.

It is advertised as such but I think you could talk Auburn Hills into sending it to you for free. At least I have always been able to do this in the past. I find once you get past the front line, $8 an hour, front line call center people, you get a lot of cooperation. The front line's people main job is to get rid of you.

Is there a toll-free number to call "Autumn Hills"?

Thanks, everyone.
I think you mean "Auburn Hills"

Do you have the telephone number to call for these materials?

Thanks.
Look on the inside cover of the User Guide
