Servicing the RDM

It's a damn shame, when you can't even get routine fluids, let alone common parts nowadays for our "disposable cars"...🤔😎

I appreciate your response. Thank you so much! I am not sure if mine is AD1 or AD2. Please see attached picture of the dial next to the shifter. I believe I only have one plug and I was able to insert a 3/8 extension in it; however, it felt a little loose when inserted into the plug. I have not tried to remove the plug yet because I don't have the correct fluid yet. My main concern with using the extension is that the extension is a little loose inside the square hole of the plug and I am concerned that it will eventually strip the plug if I keep adding fluid periodically. Wouldn't it be better to use a proper tool such as a square head drain plug socket that fits more snugly? I suspect the correct size of the square head drain plug socket should be 10 mm but I wanted to find out for sure from the people on this forum. A 3/8 inch extension when converted to millimeters is 9.525 millimeters and so if 9.525mm is a little loose, then 10mm should be perfect?

Also, can you please confirm this is the correct fluid: MOPAR 68227765AB?

You have ADI, which is the single speed RDM. Yes, that is the correct, and only fluid you want to use. ADII is the 2 speed RDM, on Cherokees with 4Low. This is a Trailhawk, with 4Low and rear locker, plus crawl control and hill descent modes...😁😉😎

Does anyone know if I should have the jeep on level ground or is it ok if it’s on some low profile racing ramps with the front of the car raised by like 2 inches? Will I still be able to fill the RDM relatively full or should I remove the ramps and have the jeep completely level/flat ground ?
I would do it on level ground, or if you need more room, put ramps, or boards of equal height under all four wheels...😉😎

You make me laugh! 🤣 or I could just be extra unsafe and jack up the rear while the front is on low profile ramps! lol!
I have enough room under mine to do just about anything with it on the ground, with the exception of maybe dropping the transmission or something, but I also have a lift, if needed...😁😉😎

Thank you. But you're talking about TH RDM, not AD1, correct? I have AD1. There is no "right side" on AD1, correct?

Also, do you think there's more leakage when ambient temperature is hot? For example do you think it will be leaking more in the summer time?
Correct, and yes...😉😎

My understanding is replacing the seal is is a temporary fix and the leak will return.

Well, any seal can be prone to failure eventually, but a new seal is still cheaper than a new RDM, PTU, transmission, or engine, so I'd recommend changing it if you're worried about it, or just keep topping it off???🤔😉😎
