Called Uconnect today to get an answer about album art on SD Card and the conversation expanded to Uconnect SD card recommendations. Bits and pieces of this information are in various threads on this forum and in some cases the source of info is not identified, so I'm putting everything I got from Uconnect today in this one post. These recommendations are for the Uconnect 8.4AN RA4 system; the ones put in the 2014/2015 Cherokee. Don't know what other systems these recommendations cross over to.
Uconnect says they've found the following configuration works best. However, exceeding these recommendations may still work.
Size - 32GB or less with less being better
Class - 2 through 8 with Class 8 being better
Format - FAT32
Brand - Some brands work better than others, but they would not specify which brands work better
Music Content - MP3 or WMA files. No more than 8 folders in root. No more than 255 songs per folder.
Album Art - Embedded JPEG 240 x 158 megapixels
Gracenote (formerly CDDB) - Does not support it
I called Uconnect about album art because while all my tracks have album art embedded, few tracks show it on the Uconnect display. Started to diagnose the SD card/size/class/pixels/files/tags, etc. and read that certain models of 8.4AN were getting album art from Gracenote and people were upset with that because there was no option to prevent it and instead use embedded album art. Uconnect says the 8.4AN RA4 system does NOT use Gracenote, so that's a good thing. I'll continue my diagnosis knowing Gracenote is not getting in the way.
