Hey!
I just recently purchased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and I’m looking to a lot of work on it. One of the first things I want to do is install some cross bars to hold an Overland Vehicle Systems Bushveld II Hard Shell Tent. I have factory raised side bars and I was looking at the Malone Airflow2 cross bars as they seem like they would work and are extremely cost effective. Does anyone have another opinion or experience with this to help make sure I buy and install the right crossbars? Thank you!

RRO or Gobi. Quality crossbars will work, if you're a little guy sleeping by yourself...😉😎

Just be aware that the wait time for Gobi can take up to 6 months. I did see on for sale here located in Beaverton Oregon

I just looked them up and saw that. Had no idea. Definitely some high quality stuff tho. Seems like it would be worth it.

I have the cross bars, and I no for fact 1 bar will support 165 lbs.
Rhino is expensive, but makes some quality stuff...

This might work better?
That might. I think I’ve gotta double check how much my factory side rails can hold now. Didn’t even think about that. 😂

That's why if you plan on going full overland setup, you need a quality rack like the Gobi or RRO that replaces the factory roof rails. Do it right, or don't do it at all. Go big, or go home!!! LOL...😉😎

Just to save your future some pain. Make sure to install the cross bars to the RTT, then put the tent on the rack. There is no room to work under the Gobi Rack. There are directions on the Gobi site for installing RTT's that I missed.

I use Yakima Jetstream crossbars attached to the factory rails via their TimberLine towers rails with my soft RTT without issue.

Having said that, I have Gobi stealth rack shipping soon. Not getting the Gobi just because of the RTT but for everything else I can use it for with and without the RTT. If just RTT, I wouldn't have purchased the Gobi. I know the next question, I ordered on 12/6, was told 2-3 months and was just billed early this week for payment so it should be shipped within next 2 weeks.

My favorite topic here. My Gobi rack is the best part of my '19 TH. I climb up there for better photography angles and even sleep on it in the open air sometimes.

gundad has some real important advice here to add what you can to the rack before lifting it up onto the roof for installation.

-Anything you plan on mounting near the center of the rack that needs bolting from under the rack. (I have had to create a tool combination of channel-lock and vise-grip wrench to reach bolts under there to mount my ARB tread-pro mounts)
-I have heard that wiring for lighting is easier with the rack on the ground than mounted on the roof.

No matter what, The Gobi is worth all the patience in the world once it arrives.

@DizzyPope - did you replace your hatch struts after ladder install, or stay with stock?

I left the stock ones in place. It's been 2 years now and there's no sign of any weakening or other problem. From time to time while cleaning or working on something, I have the hatch up for 1/2 hour or more. My hatch is "manual."
I don't mount anything to the Gobi ladder since I need it to climb up to the roof often.
