Left rear axle seal weep noticed after driving off road.
Dealer cleaned the area and it is not weeping.
Put insulation on tail pipe to prevent heat from radiating onto differential.
Seems to be working.
Has anyone else noticed rear axle seal weep?

Dealer is willing to replace the 2 seals under Warranty.
If axle seal weep is not a problem then I am inclined to watch and see if it weeps.
If it isn't broke I would prefer they not take it all apart to replace the seals.
Could exhaust heat when driving very slowly off road cause the air in the differential to build up pressure and cause the seal to weep??

If anyone goes to an Auto Show where there is a "Camp Jeep" could you check the Cherokees for left rear axle seal weep? Ask the Jeep "Product Specialists" what they think.

7212 Mileage when I first noticed axle seal weep.
This is also when I installed exhaust pipe insulation.

12000 Current mileage and no new axle seal weep.
Still have insulation on exhaust pipe.

You are right, it should be a new thread, but I can't figure out how to start a new thread. Can you move my posts to a new thread? I need all the help I can get.

Moved to new thread under wheels/tires/brakes/suspension
excellent ...

@sanghill, to properly answer your question of HOW TO start a post:

at the upper left side of your page, you will see FORUMS ... click that. Scroll down til you see the category you want to discuss. Like "wheels/tires/brakes/suspension"

After selecting your discussion category, you will see a button located above all the threads that says: "POST NEW THREAD"

From there you should be good to go.

Did they tell you what they were doing to fix it?

Last time I took mine in, they mentioned the only remedy they have is to lube the seals as Chrysler doesn't have a repair procedure for this issue, nor do they have a replacement part. So, all Cherokee's are susceptible to this problem until they fix the design.

As well, the lube added did not resolve the squeak for myself.

Have there been any negative impacts from weeping? I saw this on mine last time I was rotating the tires, and I am debating on taking it into the shop. No noise or negative impact as far as I can tell. The only negative I can think of is fluid loss but with it being so slow I can't imagine it would be very much over a long period of time.

bump....dealer kept my TH today when I went in for an oil change because of this. The TH has only been offroad seriously once other than that it's all been curb crawling. Doesn't sound promising but it was covered under warranty

2016 Jeep Cherokee Rear LH Axle Seepage

Yes, this was discovered at an engine oil change on a road trip to CA. Mileage was about 8,000, however difficult to say when it first started.

Drove the car back to NC, constantly checking it and topping off the oil (squirt oil can & 3/8 wrench extension).

The dealer replaced axle oil seal to LH drive shaft. No further seepage at this location.

However. last week, a new seepage started at the bottom of the rear differential housing, not appearing to be a drive shaft seal, but the bolted joint of the housing. It is going to the selling dealership for evaluation/repair today. This vehicle has only 12,000 miles...what next.

Hope this helps with your issue.

The seal issue has arrived to Europe. Both seals on my car are set to be replaced. Dealers in Germany have to borrow a special tool from Jeep, and there is already a waiting line for it.

I just noticed this issue on my 2014 TH at 37,000 miles. I'm not sure how long it has been leaking but doesn't seem to be a major leak.
