Hello All, I am having the same problem with my Grand Cherokee. I brought it to my local Jeep dealer. They told me that I needed to replace my radio unit for $1200. I am totally disappointed with this vehicle. The problem seemed to go away now that its colder out. I believe it may be heat related. My vehicle GPS cannot find me so the car just floats around the screen. My vehicle has 73000 miles on it. The leather dash haas come unglued and the radio is no good and Jeep will not fix these issues because the warranty has expired. I have two major expense I will need to fix so I can resell the vehicle before something else fails. I was also told by me Jeep dealer that if I trade my vehicle in for a newer model the vehicles value is lower because jeeps faulty dash installation that they had problems with going back to 2011. The funny thing is the vehicle has its original brakes but the dash and the radio are junk! Does anyone have a fix for the radio shutting off and rebooting?

Hi. For your navigation concern it sounds like your Uconnect system needs to be updated. The files for software level 18.45.01 are currently available on
Software Update for Uconnect®. I would recommend checking if this update is available for your vehicle. If so, you will be able to download the software to a USB and update your vehicle at home. Please let me know if you have any questions.

This same thing is happening to me... all i am told is i have to replace the entire radio/phone/climate control screen/computer.. I am astonished that dealership or even Chrysler Canada head office says they can't do anything. To me it seems it must be an update issue, or software challenge. All dealership did was do a hard reset, and left me with speedometer dash display that no longer shows correct time! This is the same Jeep that had to have TWO transmission replacements within 6 months of driving it out of the dealership.. clearly this make/model/year have BIG issues.. but it has put me off buying Chrysler all together! I will attempt to do this manual software update for UConnect, and then it needs to go in for a 6 hour stint for a recall on the transaxle range sensor wire harness.

Any other advice is welcome , and I'm thankful to watch this thread :)

I to am having the same problem with my screen. I tried to update it. It wouldn't read my thumb drive. I called the customer care and they tried walking me through everything and it still wouldn't accept the update? So does this mean I need to buy and new radio/screen. I'm very disappointed.

hello, my mom has a 2014 jeep cherokee latitude that seems to be having the same issue that everyone else has described. radio cuts in and out. when started up can be off anywhere from 10-20 minutes after start up. other times works fine then shuts off etc... the last time we ran into this problem the engine shut off and we took it to the dealership they said it needed a new motor that it was blown. any possibility of having this looked into?

Hi amhale,
We understand this must be frustrating. We'd suggest having your radio concerns diagnosed by your local dealer, as they are in the best position to assist.

Generally you need to make sure Uconnect software is up to date and the software in your phone is up to date.
If that doesn't work you have other problems.
Probably need to tell us what your Uconnect version is and what kind of phone you are using and how you are plugging it in.
Somebody on this Forum can probably help once they understand your exact situation.
I have a stupid phone and don't plug it into anything, so I really can't help much.

My 2016 Cherokee Sport, Screen displays Jeep and Buttons around screen not doing anything. Radio works and volume knob functioning and back up camera video functions but gets stuck on the screen while driving forward or takes a while to come on. The radio itself appears like its loses power at random, so while I am driving it turns on and off. This all started after my battery died. Though I have a new battery now the problem is persistence over a week now. Car is 6 years old now at 46,000 miles. I have checked the fuse but that does not seem to be the problem. Any suggestions?

I think we need to know which engine you have. You probably have ESS? What kind of battery was installed, exactly?
Was it installed correctly? Battery cable clamps securely installed? Can you twist them and make them move?
Apparently all of your problems started with the installation of the new battery?
Exactly which fuse did you check?
Go to wherever you have your Jeep serviced and have them diagnose your situation, they can make sure the Jeep software and UConnect software are up to date.
Hopefully they can determine if the new battery installation was done correctly.

Engine is 4-cyle, 2.4 Liter. I cannot say what the battery was since I don't recall, I picked the battery they looked up for my car at AutoZone.
The battery appears to be installed correctly but I did find that the positive clamp can be twisted slightly. I have tried to tighten it, along with a roommate but without any difference.
As for when it all started, it was still with my old battery. When leaving school my car would not start the engine and so I had to get a jump from security. On my drive to AutoZone, about 1.5 miles, the radio started acting up like this. Once there the battery was changed and the car engine started but the radio/video from back-up camera problem continued. The fuse I checked was F80.

Hopefully somebody that knows what battery you should use will reply.
I think a group 94R battery should be used. I don't think you have ESS so you do not need an AGM battery. Let me know if you have ESS.
Check your AutoZone receipt and see what was installed. You need to know the duration of the Warranty. Verify they installed the correct battery and installed it correctly.
If you can twist the clamp it was not installed correctly.
Have somebody ensure the correct battery was installed and installed correctly.
Connecting the battery clamps is tricky and easy to mess up.
As explained by my Jeep mechanic, loosen the clamp nut, push the clamp down until it is flush with the top of the battery, hold the clamp down and then tighten the nut.
Do not put anything under the clamp!
F80 is for the radio. Since the radio worked before, F80 is probably not the problem.

I have same issue with the "Vehicle phone requires service." At times it takes in excess of 5 minutes for the screen to display and the radio to function. Then at times when this happens the odometer will flash. Is there a recall or Service Bulletin on this? Dealership says buy a new radio but that still may not correct the issue.

Have the Jeep dealer print a VIP report and determine if their is an applicable TSB or Recall, that is their job.
The Jeep dealer should check for active and history error codes. This should help them determine the problem.
The Jeep dealer should connect their WiTECH tester and correctly diagnose the problem before Easter egging parts.
If you don't connect your phone does Uconnect work correctly?
If so then maybe your phone needs a software update or firmware update. Or a new SIM card? Maybe somebody else's different brand of phone may work.
The flashing odometer means the Jeep dealer needs to do a Proxy alignment, but first you have to find out what module isn't working correctly.
If replacing the radio and doing a Proxy alignment works then the problem is solved, probably.
If not have them put your old radio back in.

Search this Forum for "Vehicle phone requires service" in Search Community above, there are lots of Posts, just need to find the right one.
I never connect a phone so I don't have a clue.

Tell us the Year, make and model of vehicle you have.
What version of Uconnect you have, do you have navigation. Also the software version listed on the screen, use APPS I think.
Check DriveUconnect with your VIN and make sure Uconnect is using the latest version.
Then other Forum member can better help you with your particular situation
