I have a 2016 Cherokee and my radio will randomly quit working after starting the vehicle. Took it to Jeep today and was told it will need to be replaced. The radio will come back on, but could be upwards of 10-20 min. Jeep told me if I don't have it replaced, it could fail altogether. How can a vehicle that isn't 2 years old yet have a junk radio? The vehicle has 43K on it, so it is out of warranty. I have been a loyal jeep guy for years, had several wranglers without issues. Bought a 2015 Renegade for the wife in July of 15, and that turned out to have transmission issues that the dealer could not figure out. I traded it in on this 16 Cherokee, and now the radio is junk after almost 2 years. Never buying a Jeep again. These vehicles are JUNK!

I’m having he same issue. Occasionally when I start the jeep, the radio won’t come on for 10-20 minutes. It just started a couple weeks ago

My problem is a bit different. The AM/FM radio doesn't receive anything, but the SXM works fine as does the iPod and iPhone connected. The station presets are still on the screen but greyed out and nothing tunes in at all. No sound, not even static. Would that be the radio itself or the antenna. I just paid the thing off. It's a 2014 Cherokee, not sure what radio is in it but the standard large touchscreen one. Don't really want to have to take it to the dealership, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

My 2015 Jeep, while driving the radio resets itself, over and over again. I can’t make calls they will be dropped, can’t connect my phone, it auto resets to radio. Dealership says I can pay 120.00 to have it updated if that doesn’t work they can replace radio for 600.00. All invested on maybe that will fix it. That’s a lot for a maybe.

Hello Cnieblas1225,

Have you checked https://www.driveuconnect.com/support/software-update.html to see if this is something you could do manually? Send me a direct message with your VIN as I'd be glad to help however I can and get this over to a Uconnect Specialist if needed.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Radio problems

I am having similar issues with my 2014 Grand Cherokee and the radio. I was having outages with the radio that would be sporadic (maybe once a week or a few times a month) and they would last only a few minutes. It would be prompted with a message on the screen that the 911 system was not functioning and contact the dealership. So I took the car in for service. I told the service writer all the issues and they were going to do my cruise control recall. While at the dealership (9 hours there) they could not get it to update, even though they tried 7 times. They even called jeep head quarters. At the end my radio, nav, cooled seats, etc are not working at all. I had three screens that would come up, a pure black one, a black one with an hourglass that said please wait 2-5 minutes and a white screen that said please insert usb update. I have been on vacation and could not go back for the dealership to continue to mess up my car. The dealer took very little blame for the problem and wants me to pay for a new radio. I contacted jeep corporate and the response I got was you can't prove that your radio was previously working. This has been a horrible experience and I will never trust my dealership again.
After driving around for a week my battery died. The radio would not turn off and was draining the battery. I had to purchase another battery for $200. Today was the last straw when the battery died again. I had to get AAA to come jump me, while still on vacation 1000 miles away. They did tests on the battery, alternator etc and each was fine but said I had a parasitic host (the radio.)
I do have to say there is a light at the end of the tunnel for all of you willing to try. I went on the UConnect website https://www.driveuconnect.com/support/software-update.html and I was able to find the update for my radio and it was pretty easy to install. After about an hour of downloading to a thumb drive (16GB or bigger) and installing in my car. I was able to fix my car myself. I am not sure I will not continue to have problems but it is working right now.

IMHO it sounds like your radio got "stuck" halfway thru an update. Usually there is a big warning screen that says "do not shut off your radio during the update!"...and they shut it off during the update! Maybe instead of a Tech, your Jeep dealer had their "car-wash-kid" run the update. ;) Glad for you that it's working again now!

Hi, I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. The screen started randomly going blank a couple of months ago. When it shut down I could not operate satellite radio or any other function through the screen. I was told it needed an update. Took it to the dealer last week and update was done. But screen continues to shut down. Took back to dealer yesterday and am told the radio needs to be replaced. About $1,00 for a re-furbished radio installed and programmed.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee screen black

My screen on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee went black on me last week. My bluetooth works for music, but I can't switch over to the radio or make a hands-free call using the green button on steering wheel. Can't turn on heated seats or obviously see any of the controls for temp or change the heating options. They are "stuck" on whatever setting it was when it went black. This happened to me shortly after I bought the truck while it was still under warranty and I was told at that time it was an update that the truck needed. Now, since my warranty has expired I was told by the dealership that it will cost minimum $145 to have them install the update. I don't feel that any Jeep/vehicle owner should have to pay for updating any software...this should be something that has a lifetime warranty. It is totally unfair to the consumer. I will try doing the update suggested in other thread and see if it works, but the inconvenience of it is ridiculous.

You can hold the mute button and browse button in for a few seconds to reset screen. Occasionally I have to turn car off and then on again, to get the reset to work.
Is your navigation showing you somewhere other than where you actually are? Mine thinks I drove thru a lake yesterday, and this morning I drove thru a mall.
I'm currently trying to calibrate nav system, which doesn't seem to be working. It says to drive to nearest main road... and also thinks i'm in Quebec, Canada... (I'm in Ohio)
I also had to purchase a new battery last month(Nov 2018). (2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited). Some times it would start, sometimes not. Brake pedal would not depress at all for the times it wouldnt start.
I've called dealership for update, said none needed?? I'll probably call again. These are clearly defects and Jeep needs to cover it.
The transmission jerks bad when shifting at 40mph. The way to stop this is to give it more gas than you are comfortable with.
Then lets discuss the ridiculous heating/cooling system........ what a joke. I can have air hot enough to burn me, and then too cold a few minutes later without touching the temp setting. The A/C is always on recirculate even if recirc light isn't lit.

I am seriously ready to trade in. Seems a lot of people are having same problems.

Mine sometimes won’t light up for 4-5mins. No backup camera, no controls for radio, heat or anything else. Have had it to the dealer more than once. They can’t find the problem. It has to to it while it’s there. It doesn’t happen every time the car is started. But if the start it every hour all day, I’m sure it will do it. Apparently they’re not starting it enough times while it’s been there. They fixed the “stop, start” but since then, that’s stopped working again.

Display Panel not working

My Jeep 2013 has the same issue as mentioned above. When I start the car the entire display panel goes black and I can't use the backup camera, radio, GPS, or accept calls. After anywhwere from 4 to 10 minutes it comes back on. Does anyone have the solution for this problem?

Thanks!

This same thing is happening to me... all i am told is i have to replace the entire radio/phone/climate control screen/computer.. I am astonished that dealership or even Chrysler Canada head office says they can't do anything. To me it seems it must be an update issue, or software challenge. All dealership did was do a hard reset, and left me with speedometer dash display that no longer shows correct time! This is the same Jeep that had to have TWO transmission replacements within 6 months of driving it out of the dealership.. clearly this make/model/year have BIG issues.. but it has put me off buying Chrysler all together! I will attempt to do this manual software update for UConnect, and then it needs to go in for a 6 hour stint for a recall on the transaxle range sensor wire harness.

Any other advice is welcome , and I'm thankful to watch this thread :)

I have the same issue AFTER they did the update for the transmission recall. The dealership had the vehicle for a week and returns it to me with the whole radio/phone/climate control screen BLACK, except for an hour glass telling me to wait 2-5 minutes and then another message to insert a usb. What the heck? This was working perfectly before they ran the recall update!

Jeep 2015 Cherokee Uconnect Radio Issues. Randomly freezes and reboots to the settings it had when car started. Dealership is clueless. They completed an update (software version 07.00.50.00) at dealership and it rebooted before I left parking lot. I absolutely hate my Jeep. Dealership said buy a new radio. Its been 6 mos. with a randomly rebooting radio. Problem happens more often on FM stations. Also I can not connect my phone with Bluetooth.

Are you sure about the update number? Not even CLOSE to the current version. It’s 18.45.something....
