Does anyone own land (or know someone who does) in or near Colorado Springs? I'm trying to find somewhere to shoot long distance. I would be extremely courteous and responsible, I just don't know anyone who has any property here and am trying to find somewhere to target shoot. I would clean up my brass (I reload), I would clean up any mess (and try not to make one in the first place), and I would only be shooting targets unless given permission to shoot for groundhogs and other varmints, but mostly I just want to practice getting out to distances between 300 and 1000 yards. I'm really hoping someone can help, the next step is going and knocking on doors out in the country and trying to locate/ask strangers.

Thanks in advance!

don't you have shotting ranges there or you just looking for a free place
We do have ranges here, we even have ranges up to 1000 yards. It's less about$ since the rangedoesn't cost that much for me, but I would really like somewhere I can take my time and concentrate without a 50 BMG going off beside me every few seconds. There are other advantages as well such as being able to shoot freshly painted steel without anybody taking a shot at it and being able to go down range more than once every 15 minutes. Better yet if I don't need to go down range I can keep shooting for 45 minutes without them having to close the lane. Ranges are great for most things, but for true long range practice it would be nice to setup my own target and be able to change my shooting position without having to wait for a lane to open up. It would also be nice to start learning how to read the wind based on the movement of grass and what not and the ranges here are just dirt. There are more reasons, but my favorite is the quiet relaxation between shots that you can't get at a range.

I have friends who live in Evergreen. Is this close? Also, they have a cabin in the mountains, but I'm not sure of the location.
It's not horrible, I am hoping for something a bit closer, but evergreen is only about a 90 minute drive or so I believe...

45 mins or less would be ideal though... 3 hours of driving is hard to swing after work or for less than half a day of shooting.

Get off my lawn!

I hope you find a place. I just shoot pistols, but indoor ranges are so crowded (scary imo) and the ventilation is lackluster. I go home with the weirdest smell in my sinuses. My only connection with land is family three hours away. The only outdoor range near me belongs to a club with fees that would make you think it's a country club.

It would be nice to find a place that lets you shoot Tannerite as well... easier to hear a hit than steel... but that's not necessarily a necessary thing
