I know, use the Search feature. Very short on time here (as most are). I've read as much as I could the past few hours already.

I'm looking to possibly buy a new Cherokee in the next few days (before Year's end).

What issues does a potential buyer need to be aware of before purchasing the new Cherokee ?

Has Jeep finally fixed the software issues with the 9HP transmission, the radio and the engine stalling issues ?

Anything else ?

TIA and Merry Christmas!

The issues are well documented by a quick scan of thread titles, for a big purchase like a vehicle you should make the time if it actually concerns you. They are not plaguing issues as only a few seem to have them.

@OP, please be advised that your brief test drive will not suffice the learning curves of the transmission. If you feel it shifting very abruptly, don't take it to heart as the computer is always learning your driving characteristics.

Once the computer learns ur driving habits, u hardly feel it shift.

With the uconnect technology, there are always updates to fix/make it better. You'll be good, however IMO, i don't like the voice recognition software...If your used to your android/iphone's siri... your gonna be saddened by the voice recognition with the uconnect. It definitely takes a step backwards since it takes a while to process, and i still can't get it to understand simple commands... like "navigation...to work" or "navigation to...home". Maybe its my ENGLISH accent LOL. It does however understands climate controls.

other than that, its a whole lot of bang for the buck. Not to mention the added comforts for a daily driver.

Best of luck.

I test drove a Limited and a Lattitude... The Limited had an abrupt 1-2 shift. Last week I bought a Trailhawk, and there's no abruptness at all. Very smooth.

I'm exceptionally happy with the purchase, and for the last 10 years I've been driving high performance sports cars. As a car enthusiast, I've been watching the Cherokee for months, regularly visiting this site as I neared time to purchase. I carefully weighed the issues (and nature of issues) I've seen discussed very openly on this forum, and decided to buy.

While some of the units are having issues, it's a relatively small number, and the problems have been/are being addressed by the dealerships.

Good luck with your decision-- I think if you choose a Cherokee you'll be very happy with it!

Order a car which is factory built, most of the issues seem to come for the early builds or the pre transmission refalsh cars......

Bought mine off the lot this month. Build date end of Sept. So far no issues at about 393 miles.

Yup. I'm well aware of the adaptitve learning curve in the TCM. Been driving and modifying vehicles over 30 years.

From my experience, things to watch for include:

Vibration in steering wheel and/or chassis when stopped at idle while in drive. Thus developed in mine at around 800 miles.

General transmission shift map issues, including awkward shifts, unpredictable throttle response and rough/abrupt shifts.

Mine drove smoother when I first got it than it does now, and I've only put easy highway miles on it.

I love our Limited. Just drove it up to NJ for holiday. Besides the very small nick in windshield ( less than a week old!) as soon as we hit the Turnpike & a bad
Nav decision toward the end by uConnect it was
a great drive!

Katmandu, you better read the posts in the "transmission issues" and "steering wheel vibration at idle" before you commit to buying. Sad to say. So far my Cherokee is doing fine but you might want to wait until Chrysler finds out what is causing these problems. Still love my Cherokee though.
