A few friends are headed to Moab in a few weeks (NOT Easter weekend) to ride Poison Spider and Hells Revenge. They will be on side by sides, but said I could take my TH.

Has anyone (here) taken their TH on either of these trails? Would I be ok or would I be nuts?

I have off-road experience, but not slick rock in the Jeep.

Any advice?

Besides the skid plates have you installed other protection like rock rails?

You'd tear up the factory rocker panels real quick.

Yes, you would be nuts to take your TH on Poison Spider. :) There have been other posts about it if you want to search.

For Hells Revenge, watch the video someone else posted.

Fins and Things could be a good one to try with lots of slickrock. A few here have done that.

Go to traildamage.com and search around the Moab area. Trails rated 4 or less would be what I would consider...

Thanks for the advise, I was a little concerned about Poison Spider. Maybe I'll go do Fins and Things while they do Poison Spider. Thanks for the link Monkeyboy, there are several marked in there only a short distance from home that I didn't know about.

The video monkeyboy posted, sold me on the trailhawk in terms of off-road worthyness, I was on the fence about getting another Jeep or the new Tacoma TRD 4wd. It came down to price in the end after I saw that video and Jeep just gave me a better deal when I traded in my 2011 Liberty. I had no issues with the liberty as well so I felt confident about the brand an from the forums, the transmission woes on the first and second Gens had been fixed.

you can go fast, but I can go anywhere

I've had my TH down to Moab multiple times. I would agree with much of the above. Poison Spider Mesa has received a lot of pressure and hence erosion over the years and is very rough. The entry switchbacks are difficult and very rough. If you are lucky, you might make it to the "waterfall" obstacle, but that may be it.
H's Revenge is doable if you do the go arounds and miss the named obstacles. Its called the "Tip Toe" route.
Fins and Things is very doable in the TH. I've done these last two. Tried Poison, its a no go. Tried Top of the World. Its also a no go in a TH.

@Deputymax You could solo it. But a spotter is always helpful. My wife spotted for me. But that was mainly because she prefers to walk instead of ride over some of the steep parts... :) :) When in doubt, you can always get out and check it out yourself...

Just came back from Moab. We did Fins and Things in our TH and it is doable but scary and lots of fun. I had to get out numerous times and see for myself if I could make it down these incredibly steep descents. The TH handled very well. With the hill decent it just crawls down. I did scratch and slightly dented my muffler and the skid plates (but that's what they are for).

Poison Spider is NOT possible in a non-lifted Cherokee, so are many of the other trails. I would agree - anything higher than 4 will be close to impossible.

I highly recommend this book for anyone going to Moab. Great details about the trails and such.

I'm pretty sure my wife would be out walking the scarier sections as well, so I would have her as a spotter. :)

Anyone try Elephant Hill? It's rated higher, but looks fairly easy on YouTube videos. Watched a Land Cruiser and a VW Tiguan drive it. If a Tiguan can do it, a TH can do it better. I just don't understand the higher rating.

I made it back from Moab today. I only made it to Hel1's Revenge. I towed my 4 Wheeler down for the Fallen Officer Ride. I had planned on hitting Fins and Things today after the ride, but my Grizzly failed me. After an hour of getting towed out, I loaded the Grizzly and just came home.

(Mod, your filter won't let me say ****'s Revenge. LOL)

Hel1's Revenge was different though, the Trailhawk was amazing. I went with some friends and co-workers who took their side by sides. We didn't end up taking the last loop because it was getting late (Friday) and some ugly rain clouds were moving in. Still had a lot of fun though and took the Jeep places I never thought I would. In the end, I scratched the skid plates several times, high centered once (which it pulled its self over without hesitating), had a tire off the ground many times, but not a scratch to the plastics or paint.

I plan on heading back to do Fins and Elephant Hill someday.

Most of the pictures were taken from inside the Jeep by my wife. A few from my friend who was helping guide me in a few blind obstacles. We received many strange looks from other Jeepers, a couple shaking their heads, and a few thumbs up. Not a single negative comment though.

A few of the guys I was with, who also have Wranglers, were impressed with how easy the TH climbed the slick rock and how much low range it had. Still not as much low range as theirs, but more than they thought the TH could have. I only dropped the tire pressure to 30, I never needed more grip so I left it there.

I used Rock mode, 4 low and rear lockers when I needed to climb the slick rock. Only one time did I have the front wheels spin, and only about one rotation before they grabbed and pulled me the rest of the way up.

The initial climb.

This section was actually the hardest as far as ground clearance went, I hit the skid plates a few times in and on the way back out. It was worse than the pictures look.

Going higher

I think they were expecting me to fail, or at least spin my tires trying to get up.

Not going to lie, this scared the crap out of me. It feels like you're going straight up.

And when I saw the lip at the top, I just knew the Jeep was going to flip over backwards and I was going to plummet to my death a hundred feet below. Instead the TH just went right over it without a bark, spin or complaint.

Just some scenery...

This was my view at the bottom of the next hill.

My view as I approached the top.

I actually saw this view a lot....

Waiting on traffic..

More scenery... sideways

I thought for sure I was going to scrape the lower front bumper going through this dip. It looked like my JEEP emblem was going to leave an imprint on the rock I was so close. I carefully inched into it, but never touched it.

And the final climb down.

In the parking lot after I looked for the scratches I thought I was sure to have...

A couple pictures taken by my friend.

I think I convinced at least a couple co-workers that the TH is no pushover that day.
