Hello everyone, as some of you are already aware photo bucket has recently changed their policy in regards to URL linking as well as even downloading your own personal photos you've uploaded. The policy requires users to pay 400$ a year for the ability. At this time I personally can't recommend another photo bucket type website to host your photos from. The forum also allows you to upload photos but it's at a limited amount with just a standard account. If you find you've ran out of space using the forums built in upload ability you can subscribe to the forum with a premium membership. The alternative is to use TapaTalk via your mobile device. It'll work similar to photo bucket but will require you to use your mobile device and that comes with its own difficulties.

I personally just deleted my photo bucket account since they also removed the ability to download saved photos you've uploaded.

To upload your photos just click on your photo and drag it into the gray box that says "Drag files here to attach!"

It would appear the Drag and Drop function is broken. Next best solution then is this. Below the reply window, where you type is a button hat says "Go Advanced". Click this. Once inside you'll be able to type your message and when ready to upload photos or files click "Manage Attachments" below where you type. This will give you the ability to upload files.

Posting pictures directly to the forum is easy... but users need to be aware when doing so the forum becomes the owner (or at least a licensed user) of that photo.

We self host many of our photos. I know this isn't for everyone, but there are other places where hosting and sharing hasn't been restricted as Photobucket has done. Before we had a website, I just used Google Photos.

Google Photos ? Oh yess... I didn't even know they dropped the "Picasa" album platform last year, and now everything is Google Photos.

I haven't seen any changes (yet) to my Photobucket account. I have a free account, am in Canada ; could it be the rules are different for us Canucks ? I highly doubt it. Where can I see/read the new way of doing things with Photobucket ? I haven't received any revised policy email, can't see anything when I log in, etc...

... and darnit I have tens of photos in this forum linked to Photobucket that I don't want broken... grrrrr... and yes my actual forum limit has been reached for uploaded pictures (I don't have Premium).

Will use Google Photos from now on, but I won't be able to go back and edit/fix all my upcoming broken Photobucket links... grrrrrrrr.....

@Mark_

I've never been a fan/user of Photobucket so I can't help much there... My guess is they are rolling out whatever changes they are making over time though. I visit/participate on several forums and we have even had some issues with comments that people have shared on our blog. I have seen this link issue get worse and worse over the last few weeks. I suspect it isn't over.

I totally hear you on the edit/fix issue. IMO Photobucket has single-handedly killed MASSIVE amounts of write-ups and shares from users everywhere. It's sad.

The conspiracy theorist in me has always been worried about this and it's one of the reasons we started our own site(s). We wanted to be in control of our content and ensure it's available for others.

Back in the day, about the only way to move large files such as a group of 'original size' pictures or videos was to use the file transfer protocol, which took some tech moxy to accomplish. Today Google has solved all the nuances of uploading/downloading/sharing large files with their Photos, Drive, and Youtube products, and even the non-tech person can easily use them. Drive currently allows for the storage of the first 15GB free. Photos allows free unlimited storage of photos with a slight downgrade in pixel count. Google must be doing something with this data; there has to be some sort of business model returning revenue for this development, storage, and processing to continue.

Google can and will use the data in some way, that's a gimme. It's up to us to filter what we let them have I guess...

About Photobucket : I can't find any warning or anything within my account, so it's either going to hit me soon as @SS_Syndicate hinted, or... I have an idea why I could be spared ; I'll keep that to myself until I know more. I've checked some of my old posts here with Photobucket links and they are still up.

I'll just test here with my first Google Photos link :

Edit : well... something's wrong. I can't get a Google Photo to show here. I'll try again later.

Make sure you have the photo/album set to public. By default it isn't viewable to others...

As a side benefit to using Google for image hosting, the forum should get more bot searches and better indexing when searching Google.

If you pay for photo buckets most expensive plan you are spared. The 39$ a month plan. It's any plan below that, like the free account I had that got chopped. Since the images I needed hosting weren't very important anyways I simply deleted them. This'll break my reach in Pinterest as being the number one mango Cherokee that pops up since a good portion of the photos were linked back to my photo bucket but oh well.

It seems that only heavy Photobucket users are getting blocked. My img tags are still working. Perhaps it's when they sense a certain link back level that they block you?

FYI another free service would be Facebook. You can upload pics to an album and make the album viewable to only you, but still successfully img link the photos.

Give it time. It's clear in their plans no linking and no 3rd party hosting.

I personally had a free account. But what I'm assuming it due to the popularity of my Cherokee my links got a LOT of traffic. My account most certainly was shutdown as was evident if you went through the CoTM archives. Most of the links older than a year are now dead. No big deal for me, I've been using TapaTalk to host the images and if people wanna see my Cherokee they can visit me on Instagram or even my personal Facebook page. I'll figure out a new solution for my garage album.

Thanks for testing @Mark_

Google Photos and Drive present links to their pages as opposed to a photo link. That requires clicking on the link to get to the page to see the image. For example:
https://goo.gl/photos/Q4JoPekTmBZH1yDo8
Maybe this has something to do with the business model where Google wants viewers to enter their web world.

Photobucket links are to actual photo extensions such as .jpg or .png which can be put in an "Insert Image" function on this site as shown below.

Edit: Figured out how to embed a Google Photo...

Go to photos.google.com and open any image that you wish to embed in your website. Tap the Share Icon and then choose Get Link to generate a shareable link for that image. Go to j.mp/EmbedGooglePhotos, paste that link and it will instantly generate the embed code for that picture.

After getting the embed code from j.mp/EmbedGooglePhotos, click the JCC "Insert Image" icon and past the embed code there. Voila.

Just right click (or press and hold on mobile) and select "copy image address: for a linkable image to post in the forum.

Here is the image you linked to...

Note: this links are pretty long.

Google Photos, Dropbox, and Amazon Photos all allow links to images. I'm personally using a combination of Google Drive and Dropbox currently.

I have the 'ad free' version of photobucket, and it still works fine...

It appears it's not a blanket block. Heavy traffic users such as myself have been locked out.
