Hello
I have 2014 Jeep Cherokee North and since last year i hear whistle or squealing sound when i run in cold weather. Sometimes start around 30 km/h and usually 40- 50 km/h. I have been to shop many times and they did some lubricant and kept telling me it is normal. I had never heard this kind of thing. As per another posting here some people says Chrysler aware this issue but there is no solutions. Anyone have same issue and any way to solve this issue please let me know.
I live in Calgary and it is very cold these days i hear sound every time i drive.
I have dash cam and it records the noise so if any one interested i will try to post it. Also, I found one video on youtube as well.
Thank you

This appears to be not that uncommon. I have a 2015 North and it does it too. Since I live in Southern B.C. it usually only happens when I go to Sask. in the winter. Elsewhere on the forums there is a fairly long discussion on this issue and many people claim to have it resolved when a carrier bearing on the prop shaft is replaced. Some have had the entire prop shaft replaced. My dealer too can not find the problem, it happened last year and happened again this year. It has not been an issue just an irritant. I don't think it should do this. But, so far no failure.

Actually even where I am in the single digits to below 0F the last few weeks I have been getting different sounds.
Never heard them before but again there has not been temps like we have had lately in the last 50 years.
Hard to say, but the same sound can be different in very cold temps. I get all kinds of road/tire sounds I never got before in this cold snap. Also any air flow getting into the vehicle can cause some weird sounds like a whistle. That I get even in warmer weather if my windows are not snug tight in the rear.

Now the only mechanical issue I seem to recall was belt/tensioner parts that would make a noise when cold I believe. Not sure exactly the cause/temp but a search here could bring up the subject thread. Also I vaguely remember that there may be a TSB on that issue.

The high pitch noises covered in TSBs are, AFAIK, only happening on cold starts, not rolling, and they last for 5 to 20 seconds tops. One TSB is for 2014s and very early 2015 V6 builds for the idler pulley while the other covers 2014 to September 2015 V6 builds and is for the belt tensioner.

Can't remember what the noise from the prop shaft is like (I haven't had that noise, but read about it here). FYI : a single carrier bearing cannot be replaced, it's the whole drive shaft.

Yup. Just noticed m MY15 doing this starting a couple days ago. It's been Sub-freezing temperatures for the most part of the past few weeks. Too bad my bumper-bumper warranty is up; I'll look up the TSB anyway and see what it involves.

I lied... It did go away, but this weekend it decided to come back and start squealing away.
I'm leaving my jeep at the shop overnight since it seems to happen more when it is cold out, and they will take a look at it again tomorrow once it's sat and "chilled" overnight.

Last night at on the way back from dinner I got a very low grade whistling sound, much like a window slightly open.
The temp was 4 degree F. Was driving side streets that were snow and ice partially covered when noticed.
So add this to my list of strange sounds that come and go when its real cold outside.
I really do not worry about it as it seems to be normal with this Cherokee.
It will warm up into the 40 to 50F range in a couple of days and all should quiet down I am sure.

I have been to dealer many times and left my Jeep almost two weeks and i still have that noise in cold weather. Shop foreman also contact Chrysler engineer team but all they said was return the Jeep to customer and try again when it is much colder. I picked up my car and right after i left their parking lot i heard same noise for few blocks on the way home. And from today it is cold outside again so i am so worried and stressed driving my Jeep now.
Please let me know anything if you want to me try.
Thank you

Super5hoon, I've been having this same problem. I noticed it last year but only decided to do something about it this year. Took it to our dealer and they replaced the PCM. But the problem remained. So I decided to do a little more investigation for them to help them diagnose it, since they didn't seem to be interested in spending that kind of time, nor did I want to be left without a vehicle for a long time.

As a side note, its been warm last couple of days. All those weird sounds are gone. That is until it gets cold again.

Had this exact problem with my 2015 Cherokee last winter. The high pitched whine noise would come from the rear of the vehicle, the colder the temperature the louder the noise. It turned out to be the rear drive shaft and hanger bearing. That's what was replaced on mine and the problem went away. This is a drivetrain component so if your still within your 5 year 100K powertrain warranty make your dealership change it out as its the most annoying noise.

I have the above problem, but it can last up to a full minute if the weather is cold enough.

After scheduling and cancelling and rescheduling (3 times) dealer visits to happen during weather that was cold enough, they have ordered in the pulley and tensioner.

A video recording of the sound helps to prove you're not lying, however it is not enough for a warranty approval from FCA.

To anyone else having this specific issue, I would suggest dropping off the vehicle at the dealership just after it opens (out of the sun), and then instruct them to start it 1-1.5 hours before they close in adequately cold weather (colder than -23 for me, sitting for at least 7 hours). It made the sound, and the parts for both TSB's were ordered.

If you do not mind could you share your work paper from dealership service adviser that they replaced driveshaft and bearing to fix the issue?? I mentioned those thing very beginning but shop foreman said there was nothing wrong with driveshaft and bearing. Thank you
