New to Jeep - Phoenix, AZ

Hello and Happy New Year everyone!

I now have the V6 Trailhawk with the common packages but not the technology or winter group. It is granite with the grand canyon interior - I was thinking about black / black but I am very happy with this combination.

I have some pictures of me in Army Jeeps in the early 80s which is really cool now. Not a stranger to 4X4 as I drove a 1990 Toyota truck for 17 years. Traded in a 2003 BMW Z4 to get back on the trails. I added up all my maintenance and breakdowns and ended up paying about $400 a month on the Z4 this past year so really I had no choice but to get into something new - Yes, I actually was making payments again. LOL Having owned a 70, 73 and 81 Challenger I went to look at them but bumped into the Trailhawk and found what I was looking for. The Rubicon would have been great but I drive an hour a day on the road and could not see it.

I only have 500 miles on the Trailhawk but so far it has been perfect. I did get the shuttering with the sunroof open once but not on two other drives (must have been the wind on that day). I cracked a window like the manual said to do and it stopped. I also get nervous when I lock it but the lights in the console stay on.

I would like to thank all of the first few posters in this forum. I came here often after purchasing my Jeep to get the scoop and learned a lot of really helpful tips. Being new to the Jeep brand I find it odd that most of the hate for this Cherokee comes from Jeep owners.

Thanks,

-Eric

Welcome, and congrats on your purchase. I am from Chandler, but have not ordered mine yet, waiting it out for the eco green...

If you don't mind sharing, what dealership did you use, and was the experience positive?
Hello DonkeyKong

I used Tempe Dodge. I work in Chandler but live in South Phoenix so that is a nice spot for me to get service to and from work.

As for the dealer I received a great price and they had a nice selection (they were sold out of Trailhawks the day after I purchased mine). Trade in value was fair - Not good. Yea I lost some money on my trade but I could not look anyone in the eye and sell them my car at any price plus I wanted this completed in December. Salesman was OK and I found it funny that the lot boy knew more about the features than he did so he gave me the purchase tour. Laid back, no high pressure, pretty straight up if you know what you are doing or what your plan is. Oh, the final person you see the Finance Department was very good. I expected all the tricks and traps from what I learned on YouTube but it was not like that at all.

I am a terrible person to give advice on dealerships as I have drove 2 different cars over the past 24 years and only one of those was new. My Coworker purchased his Charger from Moore Dodge (I think) and he has free oil changes for 10 years with his extended warranty - I only received a $250 service voucher. Another friend purchased his RAM truck in Tucson but his father works there so he naturally had a better deal with all the good stuff.

I say that Tempe Dodge had a better price but not as good 'after purchase' features. Another thing that I do am not positive on is the extended warranty. I purchased a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty with them from 'The Mechanic'. I did that because I came from a car that was constantly breaking down. Not sure if other dealers have a better or worse company to use there - It is a gamble but I plan on running some trails and keeping it for 7 years. I also took the alarm option and was shocked to learn that it was not a factory alarm but aftermarket - I really just wanted the ignition kill option.

Anyway, I wish that I had more dealer experience to give you but I just do not do this very often. I have no regrets purchasing there. Let's hope that the warranty actually works when I try and use it.

Good luck to you and let me know what happens.

-Eric

Welcome! As my forum name indicates, I am from Carefree - north of Scottsdale.

I might have been the first one in the Valley to buy a Trailhawk. I got my black TH V6 as it was rolling off the truck:)

We love ours and have had zero problems with it.

It'll learn your driving habits and shifting will get much smoother over the next 1,500 miles.

Have fun.

Thanks for the reply, my first time buying a new car as well. I went to Tempe Dodge also and one of the older salesmen was kinda giving me the run-around, and I actually knew way more about the car than he did. Then after getting a TrueCar quote, the SanTan internet sales manager in Gilbert contacted me, with a much more direct approach. I guess he acknowledges that I'm doing my research, so he's just gonna cut to the chase. We'll see what kind of quote he gets me, but the Tempe lot has a TH that matches my spec, minus color. Maybe I'll test them to come up with a price on that....

I love the Black - but in AZ?? I hope you got the ventilated seats, that seems like a necessary option for the summers here. That and remote start and maybe it's not too bad..

Also Tempe Dodge was telling me about an extra charge they add on for "Desert Protection". Something about a clear paint coating and adding tint to the front windows, plus some other perks I can't remember. But it's an extra $1000. I didn't probe whether it's optional or not, but I'd rather save it and do some mods myself.

Welcome! I live in East Mesa, so not too far away either. Picked up my Granite TH at Airpark Dodge in North Scottsdale. Just returned from a Christmas trip from Colorado, 2500 miles so far and it's been great.

I think I might have saw you -- the first new Cherokee I saw was heading southbound on Pima Rd in North Scottsdale.

OP, welcome to the board from another Phoenician!

Welcome AZ Friends

Wow, so nice to see so many Arizona people on here - We do have a lot of wonderful places to go to here. I have yet to see any Cherokees on the road but it should be any day now since they are selling so well here.

Check out my post under the Southwest Region. I found a YouTube channel of a bunch of Jeep owners who hit the trails together all over Arizona. It would be cool to see a Trailhawk running with them.

Hope to see you all soon,

-Eric
Welcome and congrats! I also drove performance cars before buying the TH 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love it. Also, while I would've thought I'd get the black interior, the TH that I ended up buying (florida dealerships are getting them in slowly) had the Grand Canyon-- and I'm quite fond of it.
