I'm discussing with our local dealer a TH build. I want pretty much all the options except for the heated engine block and the moon roof. In my other cars I rarely if ever used the moon roof because I don't like the glare of the sun above my head, plus having a moon roof usually reduces headroom by a couple of inches.

Our dealer has a TH en route that has all of the options I want but it also has the moon roof. Those of you who have the moon roof, what is your impression of it? How far does it open? Does it let cold in through the top?

Does not let cold in. If you find the sunroof thread, I recently posted about my "oops" with the sunroof. It is double pane glass!

All the Limiteds that were available came with it. I've grown to like it now and am glad I got it. Really opens up the interior. It will probably be good for resale value too.

My Wife wanted a Ford Edge because it had a big Sunroof. I hated the car as well as the Escape. I asked her to wait until we could see a Cherokee in person. And also stated look how big the Sunroof is. My plan worked! Although I have to admit she was the one that brought the Cherokee to my attention. We were just frustrated that we could not see one in person. We bought the first one we drove. Trailhawk Granite Crystal.

The big sunroof is really worth the expense in terms of light and openness. The loss of headroom appears negligible and the shade is completely adjustable to block the sun if necessary.

The moon roof is awesome. I thought the same thing as you and had planned to get a TH without moonroof as I didn't think it would be worth it and I wanted to save some money. I ended up buying a near loaded TH with the moonroof and I'm glad I did. I love the moonroof.

To answer your questions, the front half of the moonroof opens, the rear half is fixed in place. The front glass opens under the rear glass. There is a fabric power sunshade that completely blocks all sunlight when closed. The shade opens halfway or fully. I haven't noticed any drafts or cold air entering when the glass is closed. I sometimes leave the shade open on cold days when parking outside so the sun helps to keep the cabin a little warmer.

How do you keep the glass clean? Got to get up on a ladder with window cleaner stuff regularly? I'm thinking more often than your house windows, right? And those of your with good sized dogs, do you get nose art on the roof as well as all the other back windows?

Yep, up on a ladder or step stool to wipe it down when washing it.

I found out the vehicle the dealership is expecting doesn't have the Tech package, so I won't be getting that one. I'll have to order in my TH from the factory.

It also occurred to me that we'll have a Yakima box on top so it would obscure a lot of the view. Would you guys still get the sunroof even if a roof box was overhead? Maybe for fresh air or something?

I'm appreciating everyone's input. Thanks.

I plan to mount a cargo basket or box and yes I would still get it for some light and air. I've never owned a car with a moon roof/sun roof. My wife's Mazda 6 has your standard front only. I checked out an Edge with the full roof and loved it.

I love the Jeep's full moon roof. The sliding shade can stop anywhere you want it to. It makes the cabin feel huge (and really tiny with it closed). We used it last night in the clear sky with friends on a ride home from an Xmas party. Everyone liked it a lot.

I probably won't get another car without one.

My last 5 cars have had sunroofs and I love them. The Kee has the biggest one that I have owned. The light, spacious feeling and air are really enjoyable.

Would anyone be so kind as to post a few pics of the moonroof from the interior?

I am 6'2" and found ample room with the commandview sunroof. The Cherokee seats lower enough to provide sufficient room. At the lowest seat setting, I still have a good 2 inches of headroom with the sunroof.

The natural light provided by the sunroof, as well as the view it garners, is the selling point for me. If the sun glare is an issue, there is a cloth shade that resolves that when needed.
