What does the "Mirror Dimmer" soft button do? I would think it would either turn off the center mirror's dimming or manually cause it to dim, but activating it appears to make no difference (other than turn the button orange). I've tried it at night with lights behind me and during the day. I've not seen a difference. I haven't found anything in the manual about it.

I have a TH with the Nav system and Comfort/Convenience Group.

The mirror dimmer, when activated, dims your review and side mirrors from bright headlights.

It works on mine...

Same here, except, I don't think it changes the side mirrors, just the rear view.

That's correct.. Only the rear view dims in this car.. The sides dim on the GC
I'll have to check that closer on my TH, seems like the sides have been working but it could be my tint?? I know for sure that it does this on my GC and it's a 1996.

Check out how they work:

I am not sure if the Cherokee side mirrors have this or only the rearview mirror.

You can test it by covering the light sensor on the back of the rearview mirror and shining a flashlight into the sensor on the front of the rearview mirror, as the mirror should get very dark.

I had to learn how this works because my wife's stopped working on her Audi and we needed to come up with a test to see if it was really working or not.

I'll have to test it again. I've had them in other cars, so I know how they supposed to work. I would have figured that it auto dimmed by default, but the soft button on the screen was not "on". So I'm guessing it is supposed to be orange when on? As I said, I couldn't find anything in the manual about this button. It describes how to attach the mirror to the windshield and notes that the dimming is deactivated while in reverse, but I can't find any thing about the "Mirror Dimmer" button.

Yes orange when on. If the sun is setting/rising behind you, it is amazing...rarely are headlights that big of a deal for me but can be nice in the right situations

Sorry to grave dig this thread fellas, but I'm having an issue with my Mirror Dimmer. I didn't want to start a new thread - just figured I'd reuse this one if that's okay. When I go to turn on my Mirror Dimmer it highlights orange for about 4 seconds, then goes back to black. Any particular reason behind this?

You did the right thing by posting here.
Can you confirm you truly have a dimming mirror by seeing the sensor in the top middle of the reflective surface? Should be a little dark circle maybe 5mm in diameter. Seems like there have been some reports of settings in uconnect for options not included in the vehicle. If not that, check for updated firmware, try a reboot (press/hold mute and tune for 10ish seconds, or see your dealer.

Yes, I have the mirror dimming for sure. It was on when I first purchased the vehicle and for a while after that. I just noticed recently that it wasn't working. If I hold mute and tune do I lose anything?

side mirror dimmer

My driver side mirror is stuck in 'dim' mode. It has a ugly yellowish color to it. The inside mirror is working properly and turning it on or off doesn't have an effect on the outside mirror. I have a 2004 GC Limited. Is there another way to turn the side dimmer off? Thanks

Hello Waco,

This is a 2014/15 Jeep Cherokee KL only forum. The information found here probably won't apply to your Jeep.

May I suggest searching for a forum specific to the older (WJ) Grand Cherokee.
