I know it's been posted because I found the thread ...once....but for the life of me can't seem to find it now.

When using the Metra 72-6514 adapters on door speakers does the polarity need to be reversed? I got four RF R169x3 (3way 6x9's) and four Metra 72-6514 adapters because I couldn't find the Metra 71-050 adapters with Amazon Prime. In case it matters I have the 6 speaker system.

Yes the harness plugs in, but it's polarities are reversed. Why is this important? glad you asked? All 2 or 3 way speakers (speakers that have a woofer and a tweeter) have a capacitor in line with the positive lead on the speaker to filter the low frequency out of the tweeter, when the polarity is reversed, that capacitor is bypassed. The speaker will still work, but bass frequencies are going to the tweeter which diminishes the sound quality and life span the tweeter.

The answer to you question is yes, the Metra adapter's polarity is reversed.
What I did was cut the speaker prongs off the adapter and solder the wires directly to the speaker (black to positive)

After reading several reviews on the necessity to reverse the polarity, I simply used a finishing nail to push back the plastic tab holding the wire in the Molex. I then simply switched the locations of the wires inside the Molex and all was good. The speakers sound much better than the stock units. Much less bass but the factory speakers had too much bass for me

I got the Kicker 3.5" dash speakers installed. I was able to turn the treble back up a bit. Sounds weird but the dash speakers seemed to have added some bass.
