You guys are some lucky....taking your Cherokee in for some service or even an oil change, and the dealer finds out you have updates/flashes due.
At our dealer here in Regina, you have to ASK if there are any updates etc.,when you get an oil change or recall done!!
Sure envy you guys.

Actually the dealer is suppose to scan your vin # on every service visit including oil changes.
In the real world I am sure it does not happen.
But to be fair you probably will not know for sure if they do it or not.
In my case my dealer only does required updates and that has only been 1 update on a 12/11/13 build.
There were many other non required updates that showed up. But unless I was having an issue they would not do them.
Mine was done on an oil change a year ago without asking. No issues on that one other than losing 2nd on the downshift. It actually smoothed out the 1/2/3 shift even better. No complaints before, though.
Updates are VIN# specific. A TSB update you may see here may list, say 2015/2016 Cherokees but that does not mean it applies to your Cherokee.
They are still VIN# specific as mine was. There were lots of TCM updates (TSB) out there for my Cherokee but only 1 required to date.
They do want to scan the VIN because the dealer does want to catch those recalls also. They also get paid for doing them. FCA is liable for them until completed.
You do not want to do non required updates on your Cherokee unless absolutly needed. Doing that can cause issues. Its not like your home computer.

But it does not hurt to ask what showed up under the VIN.

When I've taken my into the dealer for an oil change, they always scan to see if there are any updates. I've always received the updates and never have had any issues. I am assuming too that I would never get any life time warranty issues by always accepting the updates.

I took my Cherokee into the dealer this weekend for it's 10,000mi maintenance.

It hasn't been to the dealer since it's 5,000mi maintenance in September 2015.

The first thing they do when you arrived, is take your keys, connect your Cherokee to a tablet, and scan it for flashes / software / recalls.

He told me there were quite a few (list is at home.)

In addition to the R39 Wiper Recall, there were at least 5 flashes that were performed.

This should be common practice for any dealership.
